Don't do this ...
I'm posting this in hopes that the next guy can learn from my mistake...
The Story:
I traded in my tC, took my Avic N2 with me and decided to see what it would take to install it in the xD last night. I've taken this thing out of the tC more times than I can recall, and all of our scions are basically the same right? ... so I go to put everything back together, plugged it all back in, and before I even got the radio back in the dash, the dome light and some other things went out.
The Problem:
I had apparently plugged the connector that goes in the back of the waterfall, for the clock, airback light, and emergency lights, into the back of the radio. No, I didn't force it, it actually fit and snapped in place. I didn't know difference until lights flickered and I realized I was missing a cord.
The Fix:
Blown fuse under the hood. Dome Light fuse, there's a spare, so it was an easy fix.
Blowing that fuse disabled a few things ... Dome lights, both reading lights and the dome light itself, the radio, and the clock. It also affected part of the keyless entry system. The doors locked and unlocked, but there was no headlight/tailight flash, and no beep.
So I deserve a "Here's your sign" and a "de de de", but hopefully some other guy can avoid this whole mess. Worst case, he'll know his symptoms, recognize what he did, and fix it in less than 5 minutes. Good luck!

Nah, no sign for you. Seeing that I did pull the radio out couple of times already and had the AC controls pulled out I am not sure how I lucked out with not doing the same thing you did. I think at least once I left the AC controls plugged in, just hanging by the wire, so that might've helped.
Did you really have to unplug the AC stuff to do the install? I did that to run the iPod wiring into the glovebox, but it looked like there would be plenty of working space for the stereo install just by taking off the HU trim.

so should this be in the xd or tc owners forum...
you used to own a tc, and this is about working on your tc...but you own an xd now...man, i'd hate to be the moderator to make this decision...

Technically, I probably didn't need to unplug the AC controls. It can just hang, but I like to have everything out of the way. Didn't want to leave it hanging by wires and didn't want to risk scratching it on a screwdriver or shifter ****.
Sadly the generic brackets that fit the xB/xA/tC's before won't work with the xD's without modification, and drilling the xD oem bracket doesn't seem feasable to me.
Good news! The same wiring kit I used with my tC works! Which ... it should ... its a generic Toyota kit, but for anyone curious, now you know!

yea man, it was almost a next day thing. One day I'm driving the the tC and scheming up a list of mods on the cheap, no worries in the world, next day I'm trading in for the xD, trying to figure out if the cheap mod plans will still apply!
