TORRANCE, Calif. — Throttling down a notch from its previous marketing efforts this year that included partying with freaks at Alcatraz and "The Book of Deviants," Toyota's Scion youth brand is now sponsoring a crafts contest for the glue-gun and glitter set. The winning prize: a 2008 Scion xD.

Scion describes the marketing tactic as "a car accessory design competition where crafters are to create a unique handmade car accessory for the Scion vehicle." A car accessory is defined by the brand as "any item used as an embellishment or as a functional enhancement to the vehicle. This can include classic items such as a keychain, car cover, seat cover, floor mat, steering wheel cover, drink holder or any other idea that pops into your head. Get creative. Second prize is $1,000 and third prize is $500. Submissions are due October 22.
