Default Engine swaps and other questions...for a Scion/Toyota newbie

Ok....in case you don't know me yet, i'm a Honda guy, been for 13 years...raced them, motor swapped them, etc....

i'm now a Scion junkie, and need to Know EVERY last thing about these cars if I'm going to build a 13 second xB/xA.

here are the Q's (oh, and nice post on the in's and outs of the VVTi motor)

1. what can be swapped into the xb/a engine compartment? can the 2.4 work? motor mounts? maybe a XRS or GTS motor?

2. what's the max hp that the toyota/1.5l motor crank can handle (FYI, Honda cranks stock can hold over 600 hp, no matter what motor!)?

3. does anyone do pistons/rods for the 1.5 yet? I know RACE engineering can custom make them.

4. anyplace doing heads, etc on the motors?

hmmm...think that's it for now. thanks guys!

1. No one stateside has done/completed with any swaps just yet. Wraith, believes a starlet hybrid motor will do the trick. No motor mounts or anything just yet. A company in Europe has completed a GTS swap for TRD of japan, but when i emailed them they wouldnt release any info on it. Look for it on the web.. It looks like they pushed back the firewall quite a bit. I know there are some company's that make motor mount kits for the MR-S to fit a GTS motor, but who knows anything about that...

2. No one has any idea how much power a echo motor's crank can handle.

3.I don't know of anyone making the size we use for the motor. Of you course you can call up the big players in pistons and rods to have them made for you... but you alread said that.

4.See above.

Hope that helps.

I think a motor swap is the most logical start for making power on these cars. I just got mine so haven;t had a chance yet to explore the possibilites. I am betting that a GTS motor will work niceley, althought the 2.4L from the upcoming TC might be a better option. Can't say for sure at this point. But swapping out the motor will be more advantageous than using one of the superchargers.

If you look under the hood... a GTS motor or any motor... will be a REAL TIGHT fit.

Yeah I noticed that. But like I said, I haven't really had much time to examine.

Best bet....import the turbo Vitz motor which was built for boost and should drop straight in.

Aside from that....Starlet would be your next bet because 2ZZ is too big and would be tighter then a H22 into an EF for you Honda junky monkeys
