wow... thats great list so far.. and covers most topics that D and I have discussed about doing....

1) I know we've discussed having several REGIONAL meetings to discuss the who what where why and when of events and other topics.... we should probably shoot for having one in January to get the ground work set up for the rest of the year. I dont know if we want to set it up for all members to attend or have it more "board room" type and just have reps from the various areas under the PNW flag since we currently have 3 distinct groupings of members. part of me says "we're all one big family lets all meet up.." other part says.. "thats gonna be a lot of people at one place tryin to make decions"

2) point system for shows... its a great idea.. personally the only hang up i think... is finding non-biased qualified judge(s) for each... i know both dustin and I would like to enter in whatever shows are going on... so thats something we'll have to work on.

3) putt-putt series another great idea and i think this year we can do a better job of getting it off the ground.. with more planning vs last minute hey.. lets go play putt-putt x day

4) besides individual prizes at each show... i like the idea of presenting over all winner at the end of the year... SCAA's are one possibility of presenting it at.

5) sponsors.... as for dealerships... we know we can count on Lake City Scion, Puyallup Scion.. and Heartland Scion for varying levels of support. As for non-dealership sponsors... I'll put this on a "to investigate" list and see what we can find up here in the sea-tac (and surrounding) areas.

6) other possible events: (non-club specific=nca if open to all)

a) Poker run either wa/or both whatever... i've never really done one... and think it would be a blast. (nca)

b) personally i think a paintball day somewhere.. but that could get messy/spendy for some and finding a good central spot could be tricky.

c) poker tourney.. our own little texas hold'm series either a 1 day event or something ongoing at multiple locations... (nca)

d) As noted on the SE boards both so-cal and northwest forums there is talk of a multi-chapter west coast cruise date(s) tbd as well as location... but early talks have nor-cal or reno/vegas destinations

e) SE sponsored car washes to raise $$ for our events or other goodies. who better to wash cars for $$ than car enthusiasts right?

f) PNW Scion Nights or similar event?? or scion exposed if they do another one up here or pdx...

g) Hook up with a radio station for one of their summer concerts?? i know here in sea-tac area 2 of the bigger shows are "summer jam" with KUBE 93 and "BFD" with Kiss 106.1.... maybe OR stations do similar... while KUBE does play all hip-hop/rap/r&b and does regularly participate in car shows.... maybe we whould try Kiss and broaden our appeal/get away from stereo types.... dont get me wrong i like big bass shakin music and scantily clad "hood hunnies" but... maybe something we can look at?? if not a concert even.. maybe one of the other events they have?

h) ..... umm... ok.. thought i had an H but guess i was wrong..then again its 215am and i'm at work

What I can personally contribute?? I dunno..lol.. can i be supreme leader of all things disordily?? j/k can do just about a little of everything.... cept for draw... what i try and whats in my head rarely match up

Updated first post to show some changes as suggested by kkwana....

I agree about a meet with the SE people to disucss the events and the dates. I don't have a problem having everybody there. I thinbk we do a centralia meeting though. to make it easier. We have an early morning meet on the 7th inVancouver, we could potentially do an afternoon meet that weekend or the weekend after. ...

Okay so here we go again already moving on to another year. I am so excited to be working with what I consider to be the best group of car junkies I have ever been in a club with. Given that I have been an active part to over 13 clubs at this point, its nice to finally be in one that doesn’t: A. suck or B. have so many political issues that it self destructs within a year. That being said, Let’s Roll!

I also want to be sure we know who is who for the year and will try and get a members list from SE HQ but for now I do know the leaders of this disjointed and rag tag bunch. I also want to stress that the leads are only volunteers who have stood forward to take the point on most of the projects that the chapter does. It is not a dictatorship here at SE and all members have an equal voice no matter how new or how involved. These guys just seemed to either be in the wrong place at the wrong time or want to dedicate hours of their life to a car club. If any person want to become more involved, there is not a person who will ask you not to so please don’t think of these guys as anything other than points of contact.

As of the moment:

Dustin Wilson and Kekai Kawana share the liason position between our region and SE headquarters. As far as we understand it, our region consists of WA, OR and ID but for the time being we only have official chapters in PDX and SEA with sub chapters of SEA being in Bremerton, N Sound and S. Sound.

The Kitsap sub region is led by Jason McChord
The N. Sound sub region is led by Kekai Kawana
The S. Sound sub region is led by Dustin Wilson
The PDX chapter is head up by Kelly McNiece

Now to the fun stuff!

<*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*>

Events

For next year it is my goal to raise money for two charities. One being the NW Fish Food Banks and the other being the ScionLife Toy Drive. With that in mind, if anyone has maybe one other good cause (perhaps a bit more PDX area) that we should look into, it might be a good idea.

Also, I want to make sure that there is at least one SE event EVERY SINGLE MONTH. SE events will of course be open to everyone but I want to make sure there is something every month in alternating locations. That breaks down to 3 in the Seattle area, 3 in the South Sound, 3 in the Peninsula / mid section (ie. Centrailia or Ocean Shores) and 3 in PDX. It is really important to me to make these event a little more than a GTG and accessible to everyone in the club.

Ideas for events:

I really like Kelly and Kekai’s ideas for events this year. I have my own list of ideas but will save it until we get together in January to plan the year out on a calendar to let the cat out. I will however tag through each of the ideas so far and add a little commentary to provide some food for thought.

<*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*>

Poker Runs: GOOD idea. I didn’t get to do one this year and feel less cool because of it. These are easy, fun, and high profit to do and everyone can participate, even the producers since its totally random drawing of cards.

Car Wash: Another good idea. I think it would be lots and lots of fun especially if we can come up with some sort of theme for each one.

Putt Putt championship: I would love to make this a huge event. I have definite visions of grandeur here and want to make this one of the coolest things we do.

Show and Shine series: Again an excellent idea and we can make it a Scion show circuit of sorts. Each dealership hosting a show and shine and then the cars being awarded points for being there and more points for placing or winning makes this an GREAT way to get the dealerships active and on board with us. Think we could maybe get 5 dealerships to do it this year?????

Coast runs: I know there are a lot of car shows out on the coast each year and would like SE to be a part of a few of them. Good idea here

SE CLUB TROPHY: This is actually a pet project of mine this year where we will be picking one show with a club participation trophy and mobbing them with SE members. I want to get people to notice us and I think this is a good way to do it. This is most likely my second most important goal of the year. It’s a great way to expose newbies to the show scene and bring back a few old salts that have not had a great taste in their mouths.

Scavenger Hunts: We all saw what So-Cal did do I would like to keep doing these events. I already have a LOT more interest in sponsoring the SEA drive this year so its cant help but be better and better. If we drop these events from the list, it will be a very very bad thing.

National Meeting: It would be great to be able to send a few people to this. Lets work on a way to maybe subsidize a few members to get to go?

Scion Nights (Norcal) Why not? I hear it was fun this year.

Scion Nights (PNW) Did we have one this year? Am I spacing?

SE Regional GTG: We would be fools not to host our own GTG. Another major project we can work on this year.

SCAA: Bigger? Yes. Better? Yes. More people? Yes. More money? Yes. More involvement? Yes. STP will be happy to put this on again next year but we’ve already decided to move the date up to late October/ Early November. We’ll be holding a few brain storming sessions later next year to come up with some good ideas but remember the SCAA’s are not an SE thing but a Scion Community thing. I’d love it though if SE had a bigger role.

<*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*>

Sponsors –

To be honest I want to have an entire year sponsored. I don’t want to have to pay or scrape for anything. But I live in a world where billions are spent on a presidency that sucks and nothing is spent on the things that matter like pimping my car. Political commentary aside, truth is SoCal should be a bench mark. There are lots and lots of local companies that are dying to get some product on the streets and with a focused approach, we can nail down a few bucks here and there and some product for sure. Area companies that spring to mind right away are Nike, PIAA, VisionInet, Patriot Amps and Subs, Griots, and many many more. Places like these kill for having publicity that only costs them some product. Imagine if you will a custom colored Nike for SE or subs from Patriot with the SE log on them. These things sound crazy but there have been a lot more crazy things done. I read some where that just because the presentation and interest was so high from one car club in using Adidas jackets for their club jackets, that Adidas sent them jackets and matching pants and shoes for free!

Im not saying this will happen to us but its worth writing some letters.

Also I would be very interested in setting up a list of ‘SE friendly’ businesses. Having a list of business that have treated us well or taken care of us on the back of a flyer would be a great idea and a good way to keep a running list of good local companies. For example lets just say you need vinyl signs for your shop but don’t know where to look. If we had a list that showed Jason’s contact on the peninsula did good work for a good price, that’s all you’d need to know. Not only would you be supporting a good business who supported us, you’d be getting good reliable service and product. I work for a shipping company Brian used to ship car parts down to SoCal with. It went smooth and they cut him a price break. Kekai’s girlfriend Jenn works for an insurance company and has already helped several people save some serious money. The list can go on and on.

To add to the list of Seattle area dealerships who would be worth looking into:

Lakecity
Puyallup
Burien
Heartland
Titus Will
Olympia
Larson
Bob Bridge
Rodland

Other clubs will also be nice, however there is only one other club for Scions in the area and they have proven difficult at best to work with. To tell you the truth, I would like to see more connection between the two clubs so we will continue to hold out the olive branch indefinitely. Lets make an effort to do at least one joint activity with Scikotics and see if we can really make it work. Having a show and shine with the two clubs ‘facing off’ in a few competitions would be kinda cool. Similar to an old school battle of the bands only with car events.

More later but this should put some cabbage in your mouths to chew on.

Where is there more information on this? I didn't know there was one setup yet, but I was hoping there would be at some point. If it is late enough in the year and my car is ready, I will probably be attending this. I am also planning on going to the Scion Nights event, as well as a few other events in Cali.

These are great ideas. When I get a little more time to think about this stuff, I'll post something up.

Scion Nights Seattle.... didnt happen so no dustin you were not spacing.. just an idea of mine.. of us maybe tryin to pull off somthing similar.... if going with a theme park mentality.. .i think that puts us either at seattle center or enchanted village.... unless something else springs up in the next few months... unless we could get into the Puyallup Fair or somthing...

National SE meeting... also nothing firm or actually even heard of yet(i dont think) but on the SE forums in SoCal and Northwest areas there is talk of a "west coast" cruise... meeting somewhere between SoCal and the PNW......

As for other events to send people too.... Im sorta looking at the Iowa thing in May... then theirs a 2yr bday party for SE that i've seen talks about having possibly in Vegas... also possibly sending some members to Hawaii for their 2nd yr Bday... i was at their 1st yr bday... and they definatly got things goin on over there... check out the Hawaii thread on SE... they had 19cars show up at HIN..... tho they didnt get a club award... they're tryin to sort that out.. but 19 cars!! they had 20 pre-reg... but there seems to be some sort prob and like 30 pre-reg'd cars didnt make it in... but thats besides the point...

not sure how many of us are even close to big show ready like that... but may want use hawaii's example on how to set it up for a club award.

Also... while looking at the SE hawaii thread.. check out their logo... thinking we need to come up with something for our area... either with "PNW" or "Pacific NW" or something.. maybe can have a contest to come up with it...

we should post up sometime in Jan to have a planning session... while not tryin to make a board room type meeting would like to have it a bit more focussed than our meetings of the past... at least interms of the first one to get the calander planned out

Charities (PDX)
I have considered working with Habitat for Humanity in some form. Trying to dedicate a day where we can all donate blood, sweat, and tears for them..... I will also look into others. This year I donated a day to "Hands on Portland". We spent the day repainting and cleaning a local school.

The schools are in desperate need of funding or supplies, etc... This could be a place to generate interest. We have a lot of shelters that need money, blankets, supplies etc...

Working with a school that has an automotive class, may be an opportunity as well. I have a few ideas around this, but too pull off what I have imagined would require a miracle of letter writing, salesmanship and philanthropic action. I will expand on this thought and write down my ideas around it.

There was not a Scion Night(PNW). Kekai merely suggested we have one... so I seconded that thought.

Scion National Meet is planned for May in Ames Iowa. We(PDX) discussed going. Krista and I have discussed going as well. Her family lives a few hundred miles away and the trip is only about 18 hours one-way, if calculated correctly. This will be a large event, based on the responses so far. Fuji was the ONLY SE member to particpate last year. I think we should back him this year with our presence.

The SE regional event is tentative and details are found on the SE site.

I think we have a great group of dedicated people. The point of this fun.... I don;t think anyone involved is adverse to that theory.

One other idea I have been pondering for a year is a raffle for charity. We would raffle a Scion for 100 bucks per ticket with a minimum of 150 tickets and maximum of 200 tickets(or some variable therein). We used to do this in my Harley days. What is amazing, is the number of non owners that will particpate. If we found a good charity to donate to, we could easily sell all the tickets.

Sponsors:
We have PIAA, Nike, Horsepowerfreaks.com, ScionLife.com, I can work with some other business related people who may want to help as well. We should probably determine who we want to sponsor and figure out who is going to go beat down their doors....

I think we should see about other donations as well, for prizes. We may be able to utilize some of our SE family businesses to help out as well.

As I said before, We have a good group and I look forward to working with everyone in whatever way I can to make it a good year.

I will update the first post when I get home, assuming it is okay with everyone to keep a master list of ideas/concepts/plans in one area.....

It should also be noted that Glen Anderson(andersg) is as much a part of the PDX process as I am. He should be included in any meetings we have regarding the PNW arena. I'm not sure why he hasn't posted, we haven't had a chance to tlak since this thread was started. This area is rarley used in the past and he may not realize we have started this discussion... I left him a message.

Well, many of my ideas are already included in the initial post. I'm not sure what to add at this point other than, Yes we should meet to firm up planning for the events listed. Ever since I found out that PIAA headquarters is right down the street that they should sponsor PDX-SE (or at least some wipers or lights to go with my wheels ) but I don't have any experience in getting something like that done. I like the suggestions for charities, I think the food agency down here is called 'Loaves and fishes' and a team of scions showing up to donate labor at a 'Christamas in July' or habitat for humanity event makes me smile just thinking about it.

We have some good momentum going right now, lets keep the communication flowing and 2006 will rock.

Wow, what a lot to think about, I look forward to some long meetings.
we my have to meet on a Saturday just to have enough time.

Some really good Ideas, hopefully we keep most of the function
around the Puget Sound region so local members with families
can participate.

I moved the first Post to the ScionEvolution Forum, to keep it close to home and allow the SE family to provide input as well.

Just wanted to take Dustin's idea of a part install day and put it out there. Out of all the ideas that have been thrown out, I haven't seen it on anyone's list.

Personally, I think it'd be crazy for a whole chapter to gather at someone's garage to install parts, but sub-chapters setting things up for their local areas might make it easier for the local heads to meet up without having to drive somewhere far. Also, in the STRANGE AWKWARD occasion that the car is not driveable after putting a part in, it won't be too far away from home.

I have a new stereo headunit on the way, my DDE kit sitting in a box, and I might be coming into that PrecisionMuffler axleback exhaust if my bank account won't stop me. An install day would be awesome.
