Default Maaco Paint job quality...Decent or Stay Away?

My xA got scratched the whole way around by some A-Hole that had nothing better to do than to ruin someone else's car. The good, excellent, A+ quality, Toyota Certified Paint Experts estimated a total of $4,200 (OUCH!!!). Then i took it to a friend of mine that paints cars for a living and he said $1,700 (more reasonable). Then I took it to Maaco they told me $800 (perfect), but then I started to use my logic... $800 for a whole paint job, it's Gotta Be Crap. I started to ask around and my friend told me that he painted his Civic at Maaco and that it wasn't that bad. Of course its not like it came out of the dealer but it was A LOT better than what it came in. Then again his car was 6 yrs. old mine only has 7 months on it, my stock paint is PERFECT (except for the scratches).

Please is anyone has opinion or experience with Maaco let me know, I really need to know what to do, before my car starts rusting.

Well it wont be a top notch paint job and will probably fade in 6 -8 months.. Remeber the golden rule of buying "You get what you pay for".. I would suggest shopping around, I dont know if there are body shops all over by you but I would keep Maaco as a last resort...

My uncle used to paint cars for a living. He continually tells me to this day Maaco is not worth wasting your $$$ on. A -good- paint job will cost you a -good- chunk of money. And yes, he ALWAYS told me you get what you pay for this service.

Maaco is awful you'll get jipped

You do get what you pay for that's for sure

Went to get my hood primered for paint and 2 months later the primer was flaking off
and I wasn't even using the hood either!!! Just sitting in the garage.

Why aren't you going through your insurance carrier?

Skip Maaco and get a good paint job. You'll regret it of you let them even touch your xA.

My mother had her 16 year old Ford Tempo sedan painted at Maaco a couple of years ago.
It came out decent for a paint job on a decade and a half old US econo-car.
I would NOT let Maaco TOUCH my xB...
I'd recommend AGAINST having them do your xA.
Sorry!

Run for the hills if you hear MAACO. my Dad had his 82 GMC Sierra painted there.... BAD IDEA!! The paint from far away looked nice to the original color but up close it was all runny and they missed replacing a few trim pieces.
They also did one of their spray in bed liners which was nothing but lumpy black paint that junk wasn't worth a penny from his words. go to a small shop, they may cost more but in the end it will def be worth it.

Where are the scratches located? Pics would be great.

Maybe instead of painting your car, you can paint the half that scratched a different color and have the 2-tone look. Could come out pretty sweet! That way you keep the good paint, fixed whats scratched, and hae a custom paint job. And I think painting half your car should be cheaper than painting the whoe thing. Could be an option.

Default No Maaco..

There are small shops that will do a great job for less. What you need to watch out for is the paint they use. I believe the good stuff is called PPG. Correct me guys. This is the Paint of Choice.
Paint you can't cut price on, but labor you can. I never go with the shops my insurance chooses because they give me a check to fix my car and i always find a shop that charges less.

But I do know my way around.
