Default You're a complete idiot if you don't wear your seatbelt!

But if you don't like the seat belt buzzer, here's how to turn it off:

BUZZER ON/OFF SETTING
(a) Check that the ODO display is on, and turn the ignition switch off and then on. If other display is on, change it to the ODO display.

(b) Within 2 to 6 seconds after turning the ignition switch ON, push the ODO/TRIP switch and hold it for 10 seconds or more.

(c) Release the ODO button, and then press to toggle On or Off the buzzer

(e) After the setting, the mode will be canceled by either not operating the switch for 10 seconds or more, or turning the ignition switch from ON to OFF.

AGAIN, IF YOU DON'T WEAR YOUR SEATBELT, YOU ARE AN IDIOT.

ok, this is what I do when I get in the car, I open the door, sit down, get comfortable, check my mirrors and feel my seat's ok, put in the key and turn it with my foot on the clutch and brake, reach around and put on my seatbelt - and it REALLY, REALLY annoys me when the buzzer starts beeping at me when I've literally got my hand on the belt crossing it across my chest the second I turn the key, maybe they could've put a 5 second delay after the car starts? even that would have my belt on, I wear it no matter what, car doesn't move without me on it

here's an idea - put a 5 second delay or so on the first beeping alarm, and a constant alarm that doesn't shut off and cannot be shut off without changing out the computer chip when the car is in motion without the seatbelt on - I know it beeps after a minute, but it shuts off after like 10 seconds, my father in law was driving it with me point man and it beeped at him faster and faster then shut off - it should've kept going

thanks for the tip.

the seatbelt reminder is a great feature for young, inexperienced drivers, but it has started to grate on me.

where did you find this info? just curious.

[driving down the highway]

"hmmmm, should call in a chinese order before I get home, that way I don't have to wait for it."

[reach into front pocket for cell phone]

[can't reach, unbuckle seatbelt to get phone out of pocket]

beep...beep...beep...beep...beep

"f**king thing, where is that cell phone?"

BEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEP!!!!

"F**K!!! I KNOW TO WEAR MY SEATBELT, SHUT UP ALREADY!!"

BEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEP!!!!

[get cell phone, realize hands-free device is still in pocket]

BEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEP!!!!

BEEPBEEPBEEP... [pause while I lift butt off of seat to get at hands-free device and seat sensor thinks car is doing 75mph on the highway with nobody sitting in driver's seat, get hands-free device, sit back down]...BEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEP!!!

"OK, YOU F**KING PIECE OF CRAP CAR, I PUT MY SEATBELT BACK ON, ARE YOU HAPPY??!?!?!? Hi, I'd like to order General Tso's combination, extra spicy..."

edit: wait, just reread that and (e) says canceled by either not opreating the switch for 10 seconds or more or turning the igntion switch from ON to OFF. so will this reset to normal f**king annoying buzzer every time you turn your car off?

CRASH!!!

This is about the time when you slam into someone cuz the last thing your doing is paying attention to the road - and, Murphy's Law, it happened when your seatbelt was off...

Driving = Priority #1

Yup. If you need to make a phone call, pull over (especially if it involves unbuckling your seatbelt.) The life you save might be your own.

Or you can struggle to reach stuff with the seatbelt still on...while stomping on the gas pedal...

But I start the car before I put on my seat belt, so I hate the buzzer.
Also, if I don't wear a seat belt, who do I hurt besides myself.
Thanks to big brother we lose one freedom after another.

Yes, you should have the freedom to be an idiot if it doesn't hurt anyone else.
For example, I would never climb with out a safety rope, but some idiots want to.
Their business, they are only hurting themselves if the fall.

By the way, I always wear a seatbelt.

Say a person has to make a quick sudden move or gets hit and still needs to manuever. The seatbelt will keep the driver in place allowing them to control the vehicle. The driver without one could get tossed around and lose control, possibly involving other INNOCENT people.

If there are a couple dozen climbers below the idiot without a rope and he falls and takes them all down with him... That's the idea behind the seatbelts. The technology is designed and PROVEN to save lives, i don't think it was part of Big Brother's oppression... But maybe that's just me...

Who do you hurt besides yourself? Hopefully nobody, but I really don't want to pay for your life support from my taxes if your health insurance runs out and you are still a turnip.

I have my seatbelt sensor unplugged because of the stupid buzzer, but I never move out of the parking spot without a seatbelt - it's just a reflex, I don't feel comfortable without a seatbelt... And the way I drive - it holds me in my seat on turns, non-seatbelt wearing passengers start to buckle up after couple of sharp corners. :D

hm. i tried the procedure on my tC.

5 dashes appear, and decrease like a progress bar until the entire display is nothing but 0's. then everything goes back to normal. no options for disarming the belt alarm.

am i doing something wrong?

The procedure looks extremely similar to the one used to reset the Maint Req'd waringing light...

Default wear the freakin belt

my dad and me were just talking about people and seatbelts. let me remind you guys of derrick thomas, the linebacker who played for the k.c. chiefs. he died because his suburban flipped over, wait my fault first he was in a coma and paralyzed, then died. all this could have been avoided if he and his other passenger were wearing their seatbelts (the passenger in the back lived). i'm not saying seatbelts are guranteed, but give yourselt a chance.

For all of you that say only an idiot would not wear their seatbelt, let me put this scenario out.

Say you are driving along a road and your girlfriend in the passenger seat indicates to you that she is willing to perform a certain act on you.

Now, answer truthfully, would you tell her NO because not wearing a seatbelt is dangerous or would you say, WTF, and let her not wear her seatbelt?

I agree thats why I always wear mine. It was the gov't (big brother) that mandated use of the seat belts. I remember driving cars that didn't have them. But since we all agree wearing them is the smart move, I'll drop the subject.

You did made a good point about tax dollars supporting people who get injured and don't have insurance. I see your arguement and agree with it.

it's always amusing to see that the seat-belt-nazis often have no problems with driving over the speed limit. imagine what would happen if there was a horrible BEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEP every time you exceeded the speed limit by 1mph. i mean, it would save your life b/c it would force you to drive slower, and unlike the whole seatbelt thing, it *would* save other people's lives as well. for some reason i doubt it would be as popular as the OH NO YOU'RE NOT WEARING YOUR SEATBELT alarm...

personally, I always wear my seatbelt, it's just a force of habit. plus, was in a head on collision when I was 16. other driver came across a double yellow on a turn, I was doing 35, he was doing 45. 1980 Monte Carlo. No airbags, but we were wearing seatbelts. They had to pry the two cars apart with tow-trucks. I know how fast stuff can happen, and what it feels like when it does...

I just hate that F**KING BEEP!!!!
