Default Is the Scion xA a safe car?

Hello, me again. As some of you know, I'm really looking to buy a Scion xA eventually. However, one of my concerns is safety. The Scion xA is a very small car, so I'm worried if I would be safe during an accident. One of my friends said that his friend was almost killed in an accident in his Scion.

So yeah, is the Scion xA a safe car? It doesn't have to be Volvo safe. Just safe enough for the average accident (someone hitting me in the back, etc)

This car protects the passengers well, but at the expense of almost any serious hit or accident is going to total this car operationally.

It will most likely cost big bucks to get the car back to street legal.

Hmm. I guess that isn't too bad. And to my knowledge, the xA is loaded with safety features, correct?

I think it is a safe car... it has airbags...

It is all relative though... if you want to be the safest, get the biggest SUV you can find.

I drive a motorcycle and a miata with no roll bar... my scion xA is definitely the safest ride.

You don't want a side impact at all. It's a lot safer with the airbags, but still far from what the best modern small cars can do. If safety is the priority, get a large, and low, modern vehicle, especially a sedan. SUVs tip over, and those crashes kill the occupants.

For front impacts, which make up the majority of crashes, the xA does well.

Some if not all of the RS series come with stability control, which saves more lives than anti-lock brakes.

"Almost killed" is a hell of a lot better than just "killed." As mentioned, it's relative. Any decent car made in the last 10 years is going to be pretty safe for most things... but if you put an xA up against an H2, the H2 will win every time. Not that you would necessarily die in it but there is much more risk in the xA in that situation - and that should be obvious.

Personally I wouldn't worry about anything.

It looks pretty good, but here in CLT a month or so ago, an xA got hit head on by an old ___ corolla and the guy in the xA died. Gotta say, I would hate to wreck in an xA, coming from my Acura CL, the xA's just a bunch of plastic. It's plastic I love, but still plastic.
