Default GSCMotorsports.com Scion tC Header Test Results....

Completed the Scion tC header test this afternoon - actually ran through the 3 that we had on hand a lot quicker than expected.

Test Car
2006 Scion tC with 3300 miles
Greddy Evo2 Axle back only modification done to the car

Headers on hand for testing: (from left to right, oem, dc sports, alphawerks, megan racing)
DC Sports Ceramic - $400.90 MSRP
Megan Racing Stainless - $279.95 MSRP
Alphawerks Stainless - $600 MSRP

All Headers side by side :

Megan Racing

Alphawerks

DC Sports

Megan Racing (left) and Alphawerks (right)

Header Notes:
DC Sports - no provision for oem brackets to be reinstalled, only ceramic coated header on market currently
Megan Racing - only header to come with replacement gasket, compared to DC and Alpha inside edges of flange where pipes meet are a lot rougher to touch
Alphawerks - of all headers on hand, nicest fit, finish and quality - ports are very smooth to touch

First header on the car was the DC Sports - as you can see a nice gain across the board:

dyno run 011 - blue - oem
dyno run 013 - green - dc sports

Next up was the Megan Racing - again a nice increase above 4k rpm but a loss in power compared to DC Sports from 3k-4k rpm

dyno run 011 - blue - oem
dyno run 015 - green - megan racing

Then came the alphawerks header - made the most power across the band compared to DC Sports and Megan Racing

dyno run 011 - green - oem
dyno run 017 - blue - alphawerks

DC Sports vs Megan Racing - as you can see the midrange #'s from 3200 rpm to 4k rpm the dc sports kept the power, very small gains up top from the megan racing

dyno run 015 - red - megan racing
dyno run 013 - blue - dc sports

DC Sports vs Alphawerks - slight advantage to the dc sports from 3200 - 3400 rpm but the alphawerks pulls away on the top end

dyno run 017 - blue - alphawerks
dyno run 013 - red - dc sports

Alphawerks vs Megan Racing - again the megan loses in the midrange and alphawerks continues to pull on the top end

dyno run 017 - blue - alphawerks
dyno run 015 - red - megan racing

All headers plotted together - a little difficult to read but you get the idea

dyno run 015 - red - megan racing
dyno run 017 - blue - alphawerks
dyno run 011 - green - oem
dyno run 013 - purple - dc sports

We still don't have an intake installed on the car - running through the oem air box and filter - once we were done with all the headers we still had the alphawerks installed and simply pulled out the oem filter for a pass - nice little increase to say the least with just removing the filter - an intake system is definately next on our list of modifications

dyno run 017 - blue - alphawerks
dyno run 018 = red - alphawerks with air filter removed

Overall we are quite impressed with the gains from just a header installed onto the car - a nice hp and torque increase across the band - we are relatively surprised at how much louder the car got with installing a new header - in conjunction with the greddy evo2 axle back exhaust the note has become quite raspy and not really an enjoyable sound one could say

please let us know if there are any graphs in particular not posted that you would like to see and we will do our best to accomodate you

let us know your thoughts.

Ok from what I can see the alphawerks gains you the most and the DC is a very close 2nd. But hp without tq doesn't mean much so the Alphawerks and the DC are almost a tie.

I have a question you though which one has the best looking welds??

the alphawerks appeared to be the highest quality as far as the welds, design and overall finish

we tried to get a MonsterMotorWorks but they are on backorder, since they are basically hand made built per order we couldn't get our hands on one for the testing due to waiting customers - at a future point in time we will try and get one here for testing and loose comparison to what we tested today

very nice job james, very good pics, explanations and graphs. keep up the good work.

more comparisons like this of other bolt ons such as intakes, ehxuasts, and pulleys would be nice seeing as how these parts have been discussed often lately.

he has the EVO2 on. I'd imagine about 1-2whp less with SP2

Nope, base hp was 136hp the evo 2 actually gained 5.6hp. With evo2 base dyno is 141hp.
