well hopefully i wont get flamed for this 'vs' post but how do u guys think the two stack up? i think honda should have considered a 2 dr hatchback version as well...
Yaris is the superior car, unfortunatly the Fit has some interesting commercials on TV so more ppl might know about the fit then the yaris. Wish Toyota would advertise the car more..
I don't know if I've seen a single Fit commercial yet... however, I've seen MANY Yaris commercials... like the spider one and some other one with the liftback model and a piggy bank.
im going to have to go with the FIT... dont get me wrong i love my Tc and Toyota,,, but the Fit already has a k20 conversion pulling over 200hp.... i mean the aftermarket for the FIT is way better ... the Fit has been out for a while now in other countries and they have been getting a lot of love.... my $.02

oh look at this, i just posted something from another thread
"honda fit vs toyota yaris 2006, who would win" and BEHOLD, here it is
n e way, i might write up a comparison since my bro is gonna get the Fit and a friend wants a yaris
but hondas are not bad cars! infact toyota and honda basically play leap frog for many years for the best japanase car title, besides... i had many hondas before, the tC is my first toyota
n e how, the fit looks better in my opinion, but everyone has their taste
also... i get honda discount since my bro works for honda ^__^
I've seen both and test drove both... I'd take a fit anyday over the Yaris.... The best part of the Yaris to me is the center stack controls..... The front end drops off too quickly. The Fit is like a mini matrix. The engine is super tiny... I just stared at the fit engine and was like..... Whoah!!! that things produces 109hp.... it's soooooo tiny... I was also like.. yeap.. there's the headers and the CAI....

Car And Driver mag has answered this recently. The Fit is the sports sedan of the "under $15K" gas sippers. The Fit has the agile moves the Yaris doesn't, plus it accelerates a tad faster.
I talked to a Honda sales chick two days ago and they test drove the Fit and an xA. So, Honda sees this as an xA fighter more than anything. She declared how much better the Fit handled and steered. She, of course, has never driven an xB with it's sprotier suspension.
Here, in the Deep South (where I live), we have yet to see a two-door Yaris. They are all sedans and Gulf South screwed the moose on the pricing. They all have about $800 worth of useless stuff on the sticker. A Yaris four-door, with NO power anything, is $15K. That kind of pricing will do nothing but help Scion.
PS. the Yaris dealer sales guy said they would only go for sticker. Big mistake.
kinda of what woof just touched on but doesn't the fit seems like a rival for the xa than the yaris? with the yaris being a two door hatch the closest thing body wise is the older vic si, but that is mia and is obviously vastly different.
For my .02 I think the fit vs yaris is pointless, the fit is way nicer(opinion) but an xa vs the fit is a close call, granted I've only seen fits that are all kitted out, they look very sporty and at the same time, are reasonably priced.
(sorry about spelling/grammer, I'm very tired right now.)

i bought a yaris automatic with all power goodies right at $14K, the fit sport w/ automatic would have cost $15,970. In this price range, $2,000 is a huge, HUGE difference. I fail to see the value in the honda, which is still being marked up by the dealer, which is insane for a car that was born essentially from the 2000 model year.
plus the fit weighs almost 300 lbs more and doesnt quite get the same mpg as the superior yaris (even though they really shouldn't be compared side-by-side in the first place)

thought id chime in on the vit v yaris discussion. the yaris has some things going for it that i think some people dont remember to mention. i drive a red hatch btw. anywho something i find admirable about that yaris, and one of the reasons i like it so much is that its one of the few cars that they dont just load down with standard features. i can get one with crank windows and no abs, and for that i say go toyota, for making a car that gives a real pure driving experiance. not to knock power windows, or door locks moon roofs, etc. but it reminds me of japan's good old days when u could get a car that was naked and empty. having owned more than a few toyotas spanning from the 70's to the 80's and now an 07, i can say that having all the standard equipment in the universe (lol) dosent bode well after 10-20 years of abuse. power window motors fail, power locks fail (all one at a time i might add, lol) moon roofs leak, etc etc, but in my old bug or metro i could always get those windows down, i could rig something up for the door locks, i could be creatively mechanical without having to worry about my window killing my battery, or catching my car on fire, lol, so its nice to be able to get a lightweight, bare bones car. AND! it's still liveable. they only include the options that help make life truly easier. cd player with MP3 support and AC. if u luive in the south the AC can be a deal breaker, if its NOT standard. another point of interest of the yaris is its very "Japanese" look. it's odd proportions, and foreign shape really remind me of its japanese roots, as the j-spec model is almost identical in outward appearance. and im sure this statement might make some xb owners cringe, but it has a similar to the Xb feel about it, that is stylish without trying too hard, and VERY functional. leg room is not an issue in front or rear (in most cases, although i havnt personally had a problem with it, im sure someone has), storage is abundant, and despite the first glance, the hatch will hold quite a bit without having to fold the seat down. also a point of note for the yaris, is that when u see one, it looks more comeplete, more at home in boring stock base level trim, than a fit does. if u happen to see a stock plain jane fit, it looks downright akward. they used the smallest little wheels, the body lines taper away shamefully with no trim kit or spoiler to finish them out. it reminds me of base level pontiacs of the mid 90's or early 2001 or 2002, like some one decided to make the car so ugly in base trim that you practically HAD to order the next trim level to drive a car with any shred of automotive dignity. toyota thankfully went a different route. although i have yet to see a lift back with the 14's i hear its pretty had to get em that way. mine even had 15's on it and it was pretty much a no option car. the base model yaris with no spoiler or ground effects looks great lowered, and reminds me, fondly i might add, of the Xa. in the fit v yaris battle, theres also price to consider and the yaris has the point there. the only thing i dont like in that regard, is that toyota did NOT include the side impact airbags on the bare base model. Quality is a non issue for these 2 great manufacturers, so its not worth quibbling over, and in handling, the fit seems to have the point, but when i drive my 5 speed liftback, in its boring stock state, i find the drive rewarding, fun and surprising. my concerns about body roll dissapear when i give the car a nudge with the throttle, and although its no porsche, its a hoot in the corners. its also very short on overhangs. i can park it pretty much anywhere and have room, so long as i can open the doors ;), and its wider looking than the fit, which makes it look more sporting. i have gotten tons of complements on my absolutely red hatch, from casual observers, not just the occasional car buff, but from average joes, people on the street, and i think in that it has the potential to further the cause of sub compacts and mini cars, and THAT is where i think it trumps the fit. the fit is too polished when u get an optioned out model and too boring in the base model, and in both cases i think it tends to blend in, because of its conservative honda styling. i dont think the fit is bold enough to be the catalyst of change, not rapid change anyway. and there i think is where the yaris shines, its glaringly different, yet still appealing, not just to the enthusiast of cars, and sub compacts, but also to the average person. in the war between the micro cars, they are 2 tough competitors with die hard brand loyalty behind both, and in the end its a matter of preference, but when i bought my car, it was a yaris. ;)

i dont know about that whole yaris barren thing. i think visually its way more stimulating both inside and out, than the fit, the fit to me is another exercise in hondas classic restrained, yet tasteful styling that isnt too much a departure from the rest of their lineup, and lack the visual punch of the yaris because it tends to blend in a bit. the only way a fit liiks proper is with the bodykit package, or at the very least a spoiler, and some factory alloys and by then i imagine your pushing 14-16 thousand and whats the point for a car with 106hp, buy a yaris, and spend the rest on mods, or a plasma screen or 2, give it to charity, take a vacation in mexico, throw the extra thousands at random passers by, i dont care, lol, but after its all said and done theres a grand or 2 i could find better things to do with than spend it on a fit trying to make the body lines look complete, when i could just as easily get a car that looks more "right" from the get go, and has just as many great qualities, such as reliability, and good looks. besides, once u drive a yaris, they sorta sell themselves. :D

To throw my .02 in on this -- when it comes to looks both cars have their respective pros and cons, and ultimately it boils down to personal preference I think in the end. In my case, I like both though I want to slap Toyota for not making the 5-door Yaris available in the US. That having been said, when you get down to the real meat of the cars, the driving, that's where the Fit just shines, and shines brightly. I've had an MT Fit Sport now for just over a year this month, coming off of an xB, and I don't regret making the switch in the least -- and I loved my xB. The Fit drives like it's on rails, goes exactly where you point it, is very quick and responsive, and the limits are quite a bit higher than the xB's ever were. On paper, maybe it doesn't seem like it should be so much different, but in the flesh it is. The engine feels a lot more powerful than the numbers would suggest, with an awsome midrange that the xB never had. Plus, it responds to even simple mods really well b/c Honda has it kind of buttoned down to keep it economical, ie -- the J's Racing header alone is making 9whp right out of the box. If you go FI, Jackson Racing has a SC coming out very soon that's putting out 147whp @ 5psi on the first customer's car they installed it on, and the 10psi prototype kit was putting out around 158whp, but the final kit'll probably do much more since the 5psi prototype was doing 135 originally. Keep in mind this is w/ a stock engine which normally does ~94-96whp, and is still maintaining complete reliability.
Anyway, not to go crazy here, b/c the Yaris is a good car for many people, but the Fit's got its game on where it counts, even though the looks might not say so as much compared to other cars. Kinda like the xB in that sense when you think about it.
The Yaris/ Vitz has been out A LOT longer than the Fit has but I think the Fit has better aftermarket support. And just today, I actually saw a Fit w/ the JDM LED tails. Which was the 1st one I've seen (minus the K20 powered one @ HIN Night Shift) with those tails.
This is the most knocked off body kit for the Xb. But why buy a cheap copy and spend hundreds making it fit when you can buy the right part out of the gate and save all that time?!?
