Scionlifer, Flaisig was the winner of our day in the life contest in the forums. There were some phenomenal cars in the running, but Flaisig’s xD caught us a little off guard. The xD is, arguably, the most over looked model in the Scion family. It never really had the cool factor of tC or the shamelessley utilitarian xB. As we’ve seen before, the xD is a surprisingly sporting little hatchback.

Having a street car is one thing. Having one that’s ready to get sideways in the mud at a moments notice is a completely different kind of cool. To get inside the head of the rally-ready xD’s owner, we shot him a few questions:

Which came first the love of rally or the affinity for Scion?
The love of Rally definitely came first the love of Scion came second.

Why the Scion xD specifically?
When I was searching for a car about a year ago the Scion name wasn’t even on my mind. I was looking for a Subaru, but the one I wanted was out of my budget. I was at my local Toyota used dealership and saw the xD. I needed something that got decent gas mileage and was small since I was going to use it mainly for going to work and back. It’s a 60 mile round trip a day. I drove it and loved it. Having some rally history was a huge bonus.

Favorite modification to the car so far? What’s your favorite part about your car in general?
My favorite modification would have to be the light bar and green led on the headlights. My favorite part of the car is the Toyota reliability.
Put over 22000 miles on it in a year.

What’s next?
Window tint might be the next.

Have you participated in any rally events in the area?
I have gone to rallys to spectate since 2008 at the Olympus and Oregon Trail Rally. I started to volunteer at rallies last year. Started to get more involved in the volunteers going to meeting and learning how a rally is put together. Recently I was appointed to help set up rally crosses in the Washington area.

What’s the most fun you’ve had at a rally?
The most fun I’ve had at a rally was the first rally cross that I entered the Scion in. Unfortunately it was the last race of the year and was a non-points rally Cross.

Have you had any formal rally training?
Haven’t had any formal rally training. In high school we’d go out down the local forest road, tearing it up. Every time we had a 10 bucks for gas we would be up there.

What is the song of choice while kicking up dirt in the Scion?
No real song of choice.

What reaction does your car get at Scion meets or just around town?
The reactions I get through town and at the car meets are mixed. More positive then negative. When I drive through town, I get the thumbs up. Same with the shows. The only negatives I get are smart ass comments like “ohh look Ken Block”.
