Here Comes the GT86 Rally Car!
A few weeks ago I told you about the upcoming GT86 rally car, the CS-R3. Now we have the date for its official debut, August 21st. The new rally car will take part in this year’s WRC Germany, but not compete.
Because the car is still undergoing testing, the car will run the rally but only acquire data so the engineers at TMG, can properly set the car up for when it finally goes on sale to the public and for next year’s WRC where it will compete.
The car will be piloted by Isolde Holdereid who also drives the TMG Yaris rally car. She has been the debut driver for TMG and Toyota for the last few years, taking part of the events when a new car is launched.
She has won 6 Monte Carlo Rallies, 4 European Championships, and 2 times the World Rally Championships, so suffice it to say, she’s good.
Toyota is planning an epic return to the stages of WRC with not only the GT86 CS-R3, but also with the Yaris which is undergoing the same sorts of testing at the moment.
The two will both lead Toyota’s efforts to come back and dominate in the sport. I just can’t wait to see the rooster tails coming off the back of the 86 flying through the woods.
Now if I can just get invited to the launch or possibly get to drive it….
