Spy Shots! Possible Lightweight FR-S/GT86 Prototype

What’s this? It looks like some special variant of the GT86 is out testing at the Nurburgring. Our spy photographers were very careful to not say that this is, for certain, a lightweight version of the Toyobaru… They’re up to something alright.

It’s conceivable that they’re just testing lightweight parts for TRD, for instance. Though, that would be really, horribly boring. It’s worth noting that the hood is vented. Could it be they’ve got something a little bit larger under the hood?

As much as I’d love the idea of a more powerful, naturally aspirated FR-S in an even lighter body, I get the feeling that Scion they’d wait until the next generation to make that leap. After all, the Toyota/BMW partnership is a real thing, so the likelihood of the FR-S getting a huge power upgrade would be unlikely and outside the car’s character. Who knows.
