FR-S Convertible Delayed Indefinitely
On the one hand, I think this is a good idea. Cutting out the convertible is a a good way to save money. Also, soft tops add weight and saps rigidity from the chassis. They could make it rigid again by adding bolstering, but, that would also add weight.
I think it’d be worth it for real life scenarios. After all, we don’t spend every day on the track. Being able to put the top down on nice days feels worth it.
Toyota has made a lot of progress towards building it already. The concept model seemed like it had a working roof. Even if they change their minds, the engineering will still be there.
Ultimately the question is whether people actually would want this or not. I mean, the Miata already exists. The S2000 is long gone. Do you think it’d be worth it?
