Scion FR-S Convertible Sketches Surface
This probably won’t surprise anyone, but Toyota intends to build a drop top version of the FR-S Coupe. The plucky little sports car concept will be showing up at the Geneva Auto show next month. My speculation is that it’ll look like an FR-S… With no roof. Shocking right?
An FR-S convertible would bring the Toyobaru coupe into the same arena of competition with Mazda’s Miata. The brands already spar in the small sports car market, but a convertible is a direct shot across Mazda’s bow. The interesting part in all of this is that Mazda is actually not staying still. They’ve partnered with Alfa Romeo to build their next light-weight roadster. Not only will the next Miata drive like a… uh, Miata, I guess, but it’ll look damn good doing it.
2013 should be a good years for cars, especially if the FT-86/BRZ twins continue to be as successful as they are. Hopefully, we’ll start seeing some exciting cars coming back to the sport subcompact market. Fun years are ahead.
