Scions Out in Force at Long Beach Formula D Practice

Last week I went down to the Long Beach Grand Prix Circuit to do a media ride along in a Pirelli World Challenge car. It was a pretty hectic scene, but while I was there, I managed to get a few decent shots of the Formula D Scions getting in some practice runs before the season opener.

While I’m a huge fan of traditional racing, there’s really nothing like Formula D event. Even if you go home with bits of tire all over your face—and you hopefully will—it’s just flat-out awesome to watch bad-ass drift machines rip into corners sideways with the engine banging off the rev limiter and smoke pouring off the tires. My forecast for this season of Formula D? Zip ties. Zip ties everywhere.

I also managed to snap a couple shots of the Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race cars as they were coming in from the track. Given the celebs will be running the RWD FR-S this year, I’m going to predict a record number of cars going into the wall come Saturday. What do you think?
