The Supra is Coming!
Oh my god people, I have the best news of all! In a statement to Bloomberg News, which can be a real bore fest but in this instance it’s not, BMW stated that its joint sportscar architecture has moved from the concept phase to a more developed car! That means the Supra is coming back!
While details on the newly developed sportscar are still widely unknown, its generally accepted that the new BMW/Toyota twins will spawn the next generation of Z cars for BMW and the next generation Supra for Toyota. With Toyota possibly using the FT-1 concept as its design basis for its Supra.
It’s been almost a decade since we saw the last Supra roll off the production line, but with Akio Toyoda at the helm of the company, there is a greater chance of seeing the iconic nameplate come back.
However, we might not be getting it anytime soon since no timeframe was announced with the statement. If we are to predict when we might start seeing a more production guise concept of the new Supra, we should take a look at how the Toyobaru twins came about.
The first concept was in 2007 and the car was released in 2011, so a 4 year concept to production pipeline. We just saw the FT-1 concept last year making it likely we will see it hit production in about 2 and half years. So rejoice, it’s coming!
