Car Throttle Compares the Toyota GT86 to HKS Supercharged Version
I love the FR-S. I love it so much that I actually own one, which I will continue to pay for with my own—very real, very dear—money for the foreseeable future.
It has amazing balance, great handling, and I can hoon the hell out of it all day long thanks to the limited slip diff! But there are a few flaws with the car. It rattles, the rain guards have a habit of slipping out of their grooves when touched by the even a gentle gust, and the big one—it needs more power.
Now, some will say protest, saying the power is perfect for the weight of the car and the manageability of the entire package. But you’re either in the keep the stock power is good enough camp, or the boost the hell out of it camp.
I’m in the boost the hell out of it camp.
After living with the car for the past 14k miles, driving through fall, winter, spring and summer, it needs a bit more power. Not a lot, but just a little extra oomph to make it a bit quicker. Thankfully, the aftermarket has my camp covered pretty well. But just how good are some of these options? Well, Car Throttle decided to find out by pitting a HKS Supercharged GT86 vs a GT86 TRD. Watch the video to see how they compare.
Maybe it’s time to supercharge my car? Let me know in the forums! >>
