First unveiled at the Tokyo Auto Salon earlier this year, the Toyota 86 TRD Griffon Concept is making its way to the Goodwood Festival of Speed in England. TRD developed this race car to show what can be accomplished with weight reduction. They kept the stock 200 hp motor, but shaved off over 500 pounds. Now it weighs just 2,310 pounds by using copious amounts of carbon fiber.
The hood, roof, doors, trunk lid and rear wings are all carbon. Carbon fiber-reinforced plastic was used for the bumpers, wider front wings and rear diffuser, and the glass windows were replaced by polycarbonate. In addition, the Toyota 86 TRD Griffon Concept received a coilover kit and 18-inch wheels with Yokohama Advan tires.
