Toyota GT86 TRD Fights BBR Mazda MX-5 Turbo at the Track
Our esteemed colleagues in the automotive media appear to have an addiction to Toyota GT86 track battles. The GT86 as well as its twins, the Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ, have been compared on closed courses with greats like the McLaren MP4-12C, Porsche Cayman, Alfa Romeo 4C, Volkswagen GTI and many more.
What does the GT86 fight this week? A turbocharged, 270-horsepower Mazda MX-5 fully worked over by British tuner BBR. To combat the Mazda’s extra grunt, the Toyota is equipped with some go-fast bits from TRD like 18-inch forged wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 3s: the original-equipment tires for the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG. Unfortunately, the GT86’s TRD mods ignore the need for more power under the hood, but as well as EVO Magazine’s Richard Meaden slides the Toyota around Blyton Park, we really don’t care. A relatively low-powered car never looked so good on the track.
