Toyota Outs FT-86 Concept at Geneva

It looks like those spy photos were dead on. This is the FT-86 Concept. In all likely-hood, this is what the FR-S convertible will look like if Toyota actually decides to build it. Part of the reason it was unveiled at Geneva was to gauge peoples reactions (like most concepts). Well, we did something similar with a poll when the first batch of spy photos leaked out, and about two thirds of voters said they were into it. If the automotive community feels the same way, I imagine they’ll have no problem putting it into production.

My only concern is that the chassis will be ruined with out a roof. Not visually – the car looks great – but typically covertibalization adds weight and worsens handling. Those are the FR-Ss two real selling points, which is why a ‘vert is especially worrying. Still, I could be completely wrong. It could be that the chassis is braced well enough as it is. I imagine Toyota planned on having a convertible version from the outset and took those kind of things into account when building the FR-S.
