Toyota Releases FR-S 1.0 Series Pricing
We told you about the new Scion FR-S 1.0 Series a while back when it debuted at the Detroit Auto Show. It was a mildly modified version of the regular FR-S, but with upgraded TRD components. We also knew that it would be a very limited edition with only around 1500 units to be made.
This upgrade included; TRD lowering springs, a quad outlet exhaust, HID headlamps with LED DRL’s, a TRD shift knob, a TRD steering wheel which is essentially a normal FR-S steering wheel but with a fancy stripe, and an body kit that gives the entire car a much more aggressive stance.
What we ddidn’tknow was what the price was going to be, until now. Toyota finally announced that the total package would only tack on an extra four thousand dollars to the regular FR-S price to come in at a very reasonable $29,990. That’s for the manual of course. The automatic will set you back $31,000, but do you really want an automatic? [Eds. Nope. No way in hell.]
Personally as an FR-S owner this mild update if you can call it that, really just doesn’t make me giddy at all. Maybe if Toyota offered the parts separately through its TRD catalog I’d be more excited. But the fact that they are making you buy the entire car seems kind of crappy.
The FR-S has such a loyal following that this will still probably do really well in sales, but at the same time it might tick off some hard core enthusiasts. What do you all think, should Toyota released both the 1.0 Series and a selection of TRD parts at the same time?
