Scion FR-S battles Mazda MX-5 Miata in Canada
The video posted below shall remind us how fun the Mazda MX-5 Miata is, and that reminder shall also serve to remind us why there needs to be a Scion FR-S convertible.
In a poll Marcus Slater posted recently, 66 percent of you said you’d be interested in an FR-S convertible, so Scion/Toyota: stop with your on-again/off-again FR-S convertible plans … our hearts can no longer take it. You’re making us feel like dogs running after a ghost object you’ve thrown mime-style.
Now, if I may address this: I know an FR-S convertible will not drive as dynamically as the coupe, but open-air enjoyment makes up for a slight loss in vehicle dynamics, especially for customers who are less racing-minded. I’ve been a part of the Instagram discussions with @CarCounsel about how an open-top variant would dilute the FR-S-brand purpose. When it comes to the Ferrari 458 and the Lamborghini Gallardo, do the Spider/Spyder versions of those cars dilute the characters of their respective vehicle lines?
Toyota/Scion: just build it already.
