Weekending with the Scion xB
Its ladybug red hue shining like a beacon on our sunny street, the Scion xB sat happily amongst the other neighborhood cars. It was a little brighter, and a little boxier than the white, beige and blue Prii and Pathfinders that take up permanent residence, but it was still a car comfortable amongst bungalow houses, small lawns and beach-town adjacent residents.
My neighborhood has kids and dogs and bicyclists and surfboards and an RV that someone’s going to burn down one of these days for sucking up three precious parking spaces five days out of seven, and even though we’re off of a major thoroughfare in Los Angeles, it’s still pretty family friendly. People haul a lot of stuff around – to the beach, to the mountains, to dance class and paddle board lessons, and to the play date across town and they do so in vehicles pretty similar to the xB.
So I decided to treat the cheery toaster as if it were a family vehicle, hauling myself, my husband and our friends to the L.A. County Fair in Pomona, up to Thousand Oaks for book club, and everywhere else a typical weekend might find a group of people and their stuff.
So, did the xB prove a pleasant companion in proto-suburbia or was it a scarlet outcast in a stuccoed world? Stay tuned for details coming soon.
