J3st3r's Setup(s)
Well I was trying to keep this under the radar but had to let the cat out of the bag so to speak on another thread. I am in the process of a whole new setup on the car for the 2010 Time Attack series.
Finally had to tear down the setup that I got from a....well I will leave the piece of $...name out of this...and WOW the things you find and learn. Here is kind of a log as to where we stand.
Problems Found:
1) Cylinder walls washed and scored (looked like engine was assembled dirty)
2) #4 Rod was through 2 of the 3 layers of bearing, so it was close to being spun
3) Valve clearances were wrong, and under operating temp, were either barely sealing or not sealing
4) One valve was bent and had to be replaced
Good news:
Engine does have Carillo Rods
Engine does have Ferrera Valves
Head is ported and has oversized valves
Engine block was notched to accept Carillo rods
Solutions:
Head has been fixed(clearances, new valve, etc)
Cylinders were honed to accept oversized pistons
Engine will be assembled and built by people that know what the _____ they are doing!
Car will be setup for next years Time Attack Series, this will include roll cage, LSD, BBK, and tires!
Pictures:
Balance Shafts Were Removed BUT....They did not remove the gear from the crank.....
You can clearly see the scuff marks and damage on the old pistons, and bearings
Motor Had Less Than 4k Miles On.....Great Engine Builder.....NOT
Now onto the new setup
Finished Honing
Crank Milled, Balanced, & Ready for Assembly
Pistons and Rods Assembled
Block Notched for Carrillo Rods
ARP Mains Installed
Bottom End Assembled
Valve Seats Finished Being Cut in Head!
More shots of the Head Prepped and Ready to Go!
Fairly Obvious Where the New Valve Is!!
Ports Cleaned Up
Clutch Setup
The Stash!
I DO NEED SOME HELP THOUGH.....PLEASE SEE HERE..https://www.scionlife.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=171615

Not all new internals, just oversized CP Pistons and rings...The Carrillo rods are fine but the big end of the rods were machined to assure that everything was in the round and in spec. The crank is the same too it was just rebalanced, machined, and the balance shaft gear was removed(which should have been done previously). ARP main studs were also added, and the block was line bored. The head was also re done.

First build was probably one of the worst experiences of my life.....I bought the car in Oct 2005, and it has 12k miles on it....it was down for the better part of 2 years on that one.......Lethal is doing the work.....they have been GREAT to work with...and their machine shop is freaking phenomenal.

Looking good Brian. I can't wait to see this engine when it is done...especially since it is being done by a company that knows what they are doing. Definitely going to be watching this thread.

The head looks like it was never decked!?
Hows the car? How many miles now! Also was that original bearing a standard acl? did not look like a acl race bearing! What were your findings on why it happened?
