Canadian tC Project - New Autox! June 24, 2012
Well, as everyone else is doing a build, I might as well start mine. Unfortunately due to weather though, mine wont be finished until summer, but the project will continue throughout the winter.
This is the FIRST tC sold and licenced in Canada, so worth doing something special!
Here's how it sits so far:
Here's the new Alpine INA-W900 radio. The iPod cables are all hardwired into the original USB plug in front of the shifter for the clean OEM like install. The bluetooth is temporarily installed with the microphone installed in a spare knockout beside the steering wheel. I may go back to the original BluLogic as the new Parrot does not like my 2G iPhone!
Here's the first dyno. A base map for potential things to come.
This car will be built for short course Solo2 lapping, occasional Solo1 lapping and obviously daily driving.
More to come!

waaaaait waaaaait waaaaaait... didn't the 2006 make 147whp stock? and have 160hp
how can this one make 145whp and have 180hp... This is something very fishy going on here Toyota... What the heeeeeeeeck!!!

all dynos are going to be different, the point is that World racings dyno read to high, this one is probably a little low, i was expecting no more then 150-155 true wheel horse power, its a matter of subtracting drivetrain loss from factory rated horsepower which is always around 10-15% for manuals and more for auto's

lol, i dont blame church's dyno, dynos are not very reliable for true HP readings, but i did not like WR insisting that 190+ to the wheels of the new tc was possible, thats what made me raise my eyebrow, lol
but yes, having a 180HP dyno sheet would make for nice arguments, lol

I am wondering which is true... I know all about the loss and everything but still, Cars have sometime been Under-read by their manufacturers...
I was hoping it was one of these times when I saw the WR dyno... I was hoping it had no less than 153whp... but when I saw the 198.7whp I fell flat on my @$$

^manufacturers usually underate cars for a reason, for example toyota with the supra and nissan with the skyline, both were underated in japan to 280hp due to a law that restricted HP numbers to 280 (true numbers were 300+)
or also when engines clash within the manufacturers engine lineup, example a 4cyl turbo making as much HP as a V6, yet the V6 is more expensive so they underate the 4cyl to make the price of the V6 more justifiable, if that makes sense.
Here is see no reason to underate the tc, especially when more power is something everyone was specifically asking for.

I feel ya, I feel ya... That's something that has been circling my head since I saw WR sheets.. Why... WHY would Toyota claim its scion is slower, when it could've posted:
"The Brand New tC now with 225hp and 224tq"
..mind my Spanish, but Pu~eta!!!! That sounds So much appealing than 180 measly ponies...

I'm not trying to disprove anyone by posting this dyno figure because honestly, I can't say if mine is true or not. Speaking with the dyno operators, they were confident in saying that this dyno would produce between 8-10% less than a dynapak which WR used. That would put it around 155-160whp. Now, also note that this was only after one run (it was for charity, so I did it). The guys who did 2 runs made about 10% more power on the second run then on the first. So take all that into account, if I did 2 runs I might have made 160whp, then with the 8-10% figure to the dynapak, I would have been maybe 170-175whp.
With dynos it's so hard to tell. Maybe someone else can get one on a roller and prove someone right. There are enough figures to go off now.

Well if i saw a dyno saying 180whp i woulda believed it. That i coulda seen as a slight underating by 15ish whp. But the nearly 200whp and tq was a lil questionable. Maybe it is true and they got a factory gem or maybe a somehow with a good tune you can get some good hp out of these and a computer glitch happened! who knows. All these answers will eventually be answered when more are available and dyno runs are made.

Well actually, if you wanted to... You can make a dyno read high or low, if you wanted the tC to make 200whp, you could make it read it all you want all day. I'm guessing descendant may have tweaked their dyno to read high.

Still i was hoping on the lucky, as they say here "Macho" tC... There have been and always will be wild cards from the factory

I'm sorry if I seem to offend anyone, I'm new to the scion scene. I drive a MKV GTi at the moment. But I have worked on cars ranging from 90whp- 1000whp... So I have always know that some places tweak dyno's in order to make the customers happy. If some people happen to just get a factory freak tC, then I'm all for it and I can't wait to see what mine puts out on the dyno when I pick it up. I was just throwing out a possibility since no one else seem to have brought it up. Again, I wasn't trying to point any fingers or call B.S. On anyone. I'm just sharing information from my side of the tracks.
