From what I've read, good handling, good power, so so aftermarket support, but the real downer is weak internals.

I think because of the EVO, its a real let down from what it could be. But for the price its a decent car. The mirages lasted plenty of miles.

I've been reading that the Next Gen Lancer Ralliart will be bumped up to compete with Subaru's WRX. Should be interesting seeing a baby evo.

They should have done that a long time ago. Deffinetly need something cheaper and more subdued than the EVO.

true
although the threadstarter didn't post a preference
if owning a 4-door is a priority then i would suggest looking into the mazda3

Deffinetly, Motortrend (or car and driver, or road and track, or one of them) has the Mazda Speed 3 and the WRX on the cover and the Mazda 3 does very well against it. Just looks ugly as a hatchback or whatever it is.

I own a 2004 Lancer Ralliart. You don't see many of them on the road and most people think they are an OZ with nicer rims, a bodykit and eurotails.

Its a nice car if you want 4-doors. Mine has 28,000 miles on it and no problems at all. I love the engine. It is a 2.4 Liter 4 w/ MIVEC. Once you hit 3500 rpms the other cam profile kicks in and the car takes off. Its a noticeable kick. The engine is very torquey, feels like a small 6-cylinder. Horsepower is 162 and the torque is 162ft-lbs. Sport Compact Car dyno'd a 5-speed car and came up with 152 RWHP stock. It makes me think that mitsubish underrated the horsepower on the car. Its flywheel rating is probably closer to 170hp. The handling isn't bad. I think the tC handles better, it should tC has better factory rubber. One downside is the crappy Goodyear all season tires that come on the Ralliart. They suck. The interior is very functional. Everything is within reach of where it needs to be. Seats are very comfortable. It also has the same shifter and linkage taken from the Evo, if your a manual driver.

Gas mileage if your concerned about it isn't the greatest. Driving like a grandpa I can get barely 25mpg in the city. There are other cars of similar engine size and vehicle weight that get better mileage.

There isn't a whole lot of parts available from a lot of manufacturers. I think the car is overshadowed by the EVO. Roadracemotorsports is your best source. These cars can run mid to low 15's depending on the driver. 14's all motor w/ some bolt ons is pretty easy.

My mother owns a tC. I've driven it, but you can definetly tell the Ralliart has more punch. Even she agrees. I think gearing might also have something to do with that, not just the engine. Ralliart is slightly lighter weight, but not a real factor I guess.
I like the tC's suspension better w/ its slightly sitffer ride and yokohama tires. I guess all the extra chassis bracing really helps the tC as well.

Take one for a test drive and see how you like it. Thats the only way to know.

I have a few problems with your review, ive driven both cars as well.
It doesnt make RWHP, its front wheel drive.
Stock for Stock, the Ralliart handles much better, partially because it has the same chassis as the EVO8.
the tC has MUCH more body roll than the ralliart. I have tested this on some intense areas.
Gas mileage in each car was about the same. weak for 4 cylinders
Ralliart seats are a little more supportive
Ralliart also had a better exhaust tone - stock for stock
HOWEVER, you can definetely tell the build quality of the tC was better than the Lancer. The transmission in the tC is much smoother, and the engine doesn't sound like it is working as hard to keep the same performance as the RA.

I meant front wheel my bad.

I felt like the tC had better damping and what not. Engine in the tC feels smoother and a lot quieter. Ralliart engine is somewhat noisey. Exhaust tone isn't bad. It comes with 2 1/8" mandrel bent piping already and tubular like header. Put a magnaflow muffler on there and it only gets better.
