That's because all most sales people care about is moving what is on the lot right now. Most of them aren't car people they just sell for a job.
Seems that salesmen never know crap about the cars they sell let alone what's coming next. I used to love answering questions about Scions back in the day when in the showroom. The sales staff would get that glazed over look when the questions were asked.

I like the XB1 better. Anyways everyone wants a box. Take Ford and Nissan but Scion was the better box state side.

"The new Cube will be built on the Versa platform"

If it has the same boxy shape and the Versa's 1.8L 127hp motor, I'm in for sure!

I'd rather have this than Scion's gas guzzling, rounded Camry wagon.

I wonder if Nissan should have started to import this Cube back in say... 2002 when gas prices really started climbing , vs. say in late 2008/09 ?? If they would have came out with it back in '02, it would have been before the xB - but since the xB came out in 2003 and picked up the super large market share of consumers wanting a car of this sort then 2003-late 2006 , thousands and thousands of xB's were sold , and I'm sure there is still a market here for a similar car in 2009+ , but I believe Toyota got the golden egg of the market first ..... Nissan might still at least get a silver egg of sorts. Not to mention, I'm sure Toyota / Scion will be coming out with something comprable by 2009-10 that will make it competitive. I dont believe Honda will have anything similar(the Fit doesn't really count, engine wise it does, but size/style is differentiated enough) ... however I do suppose the Element is sorta similar , but would have to have a smaller engine to be in the same league- instead of the 2.4L

True, but when the Cube does make its appearence in the States, 99.8% of people out there shopping for a car to buy will not know this, and will immediately draw the comparison to how much its like a 1st Gen xB ... "copy cat" of sorts mentality of car shoppers looking for a new or used car, and a bunch of people out there don't like buying something very similar to another car thats already been out 5+ years. Look what happened to the tC .. nice design , but when Pontiac came out with that one model by 2006+ , its got a very-very similar rear-end as the tC , and I know it drew consumers away from potentially buying a tC on the grounds that the two cars look sort of the same- at least from the rear-end.

Not to mention, Toyota reliability vs. Nissan reliability in the minds of consumers are not equal. I'd say at least 8/10 people would rate a Toyota as being more reliable then a Nissan , thus more value is attributed to the xB overall.

Personally, IF I was looking to buy a new car in late 2008-09 , I'd seriously consider a Cube . Owning a new car is awesome, maintain properly... it will go 1000's and 1000's of miles. Overally though, I'd take a stab and say the Cube will not hold its value as good as a 1st Gen xB has in recent years , due to the xB coming out first + Toyota reliability factored into the equation. Plus as the years march on + on , efficency of gas consumption in cars should get better and better.

My 2001 Nissan Sentra has had a lot of problems. Kinda made me sour for Nissans. But this new box looks nice. Maybe replace the Sentra and buy an extended warranty.

Its been said a thousand times, but this is the direction XB2 should have taken. I like the Cube because IT IS a copy of XB1.

Edmunds did a comparison of Cube and xB2 months ago. Didn't look too promising. I'd have to see and drive whatever actually makes it to the US to judge.

Its hard to say who had the initial prototype/design first .... either way, who ever had it probably had the first international car shows back in 1997-9, maybe someone can dig back into archives and see some early pics of the xB1 from the late 1990's .

The Cube could be good, I like the side and rear end (not so sure about those tail lights being all the way on the bottom like that , not so sure how visible that will be to other drivers) , but in looking at pictures of the front .. I'd prefer a xB1 over the Cube.

Does anyone know what size engine will be in the Cube ????
I always said, the xB1 would have been very sweet if it could have come from factor w/ the 1.8L DVVT-i , as it wouldn't have lost much/if any mpg over the 1.5L ... yet picked up some much needed hp/torque.

OK, so for those of you saying that the Cube predates the bB/xB, that's only kind of true. The 1st gen cube predates the bB, but the bB predates the 2nd gen Cube, so the bB design was out first.

I was aware of the Cube before the xB, and back in 2005 I was constantly bugging the Nissan sales people for any news on if it was going to be sold in the U.S., but of corse, they don't keep up with industry news (even that of their own company), so they didn't know. Whether or not the Cube actually gets sold in the U.S. or not remains to be seen. Believe it when you see it.

TOYOTA EXECS, ARE YOU READING THIS THREAD? Just pointing out how well your "bring young people to Toyota" thing is going, as we use your forum to plan our defection to Nissan. On the plus side, my 59-year-old dad REALLY likes the new xB. I mean, he said he'd never buy one, but he sure prefers the way it looks.

Just checking. How's that "Assy McGee" spot working out for you?

If Nissan had sold the Cube in 2004, I'd be posting on CubeLife.com right now.
