i started with a hand me down 92 s-10 that my parents gave me.....it was a 2wheel drive, so no offroading excursions in that one

then i bought my own, a 2004 silverado.....that was fun offroading

now i have my tC, which is fun on-road....miss the v8, but love the gas mileage...

it say start with something like an s-10, it taught me to stay in line...it handled ok before i lowered it, and it let me learn how to drive stick too

my vote-standard, v6 pickup, full or midsized....you learn alot

I wouldn't want a pickup truck as my 1st car.

92-96 Toyota Camry 4 Cylinder....should be able to find a really affordable one, decent gas mileage, and safe.

my first car was a 2000 ford mustang with 118,000 miles on it. got it for $4,000 as like a beater. It was the most unreliable and the most gas guzzling car ive ever driven. a year later i got my tC and its a 1000x better than that POS.

it was pretty fun to drive though! I remember i would always drive it really hard and redline it almost everyday hahahaha

My first car was a 95 Ford Probe SE handed down from my dad. I loved that lil car. Perfect for a beginniner IMO, it was not fast or anything and it was an auto..but it was fun. After a while, i kinda wished it was a stick, but watever. After about 3 years with it, i got the tC. Sigh, miss that lil car.

I'm one of those people who thinks if mommy and daddy buy you a brand new car when you turn 16, you and they both should be beat with a big stick. But that's not the issue right now.

First off I wouldn't recommend the tC for the simple fact that the back of it is one big blind spot. It's hard to see out of the back of it, and I can't count the times that I've almost hit someone because I couldn't see them coming (not because I didn't look).

I think everyone's first car should be a Corolla. Mine was. They are reliable, great gas mileage, and aren't fast enough to do anything really stupid in.

Just my $.02.

I had a 91 corolla when I was 16. A corolla would be my recommendation as a first car.

that would also be my opinion
-corolla
-civic lx / dx / ex

nothing too expensive and won't require a lot of maintenance
my first was an 88 maxima and i was 17 years old in 1999
so about a ten year old beater (hummm.... memories...)

Any small or midsize Japaneese sedan is the way to go for sure. I'm not too much of a Civic fan so If I were 16 and buying a car it'd probably be a Corolla with the current body style.

I would get like an 03 or 04 stick ford mustang preferably GT with like 30k or more miles on it. You'll be able to kill in races with your friends.

i hope this is on the track because no one should be racing on the streets ESPECIALLY a 16 year old

Yes. That's just what the world needs. Another stupid, inexperienced 16-year-old driver on the road in a fast car trying to "live his life a quarter mile at a time...".

Another vote for the Corolla as a first car. IMO, they're great and all but just can't see myself in one.

My first car was my mom's 1992 Honda Accord EX coupe. Loved it, but was too damn careless with it. So I sold it and bought a '95 GSR. I got what I deserved for mistreating the Accord, the GSR gave up on me early. It had 130k on the poor poor b18c1 that has been beat to death twice. (Salvage Title.)

Get a Corolla or a 91-93 accord.

Corolla, Accord, or Civic would be my choices if a new Scion isn't an option, all depends on your budget.

A Honda fit would be nice. A Corrolla would be ideal too.
