gixxter all the way, but get the 750... once you get the 600 and get used to it, your gonna want to upgrade later on, for that, get the mid lvl 750 and you should be good

I've actually been looking at the Ninja 250R. It's only $3,000, and gets 60MPG. I'd much rather learn on a cheaper/slower bike than spend $10,000 on a Honda 600 to start learning.

Do any of you actually have any of these bikes that you are praising about? If so... post up a pic for me and give me your insight on that bike and if you would actually recommend it for my first bike. Thanks!

I was actually reading about it in (last months?) Cycle World. They're pretty much calling it the best first bike you could possibly get.

if you dont want to go crazy fast, dont. but once your a bit seasoned in riding, then imo id go with the 750. i dont really know the mpg for any of them, but theyre a hell of alot better than a car thats for sure. I used to own a 00 suzuki katana 750. although it was a 750, it weighted twice as much as the gsxr750. wow... lol thinking back, this was serveral years ago. From the articles that i had read back then, the gsxr was a better all around bike for performance. not sure about know... so i guess it kinda makes it my unicorn... lol anyway, if your not too interrested in performance, carbon is right. or why not forget about sports bikes all together, and get a cruiser?

If you are a NEW RIDER (dirt riding doesn't count), get the 250R. You will only hurt yourself and/or f00k up a nice bike if you get the 600s or larger. Check out the Ninja 650 (or used EX500) if the 250 just isn't "manly" enough for you. It is a great bike and plenty capable of spanking other 600s if the rider has talent.

http://www.ninja650.com/

I currently ride a 2002 Honda RC51. I've been riding for over 15 years, so if you have any other questions, I would be happy to give you my 2 cents worth. Just PM me. Just please don't listen to the non-riders or uber-cool newbie riders on their soon-to-be-salvage-titled brand new crotch rockets. Sure some people make it just fine starting out on a large CC motorcycle, but most don't. I've seen it happen time and time again. Sadly, too many new riders let their egos or their friends peer pressure make their bike choice and they end up hurt or killed.

Also, take a MSF course BEFORE you buy your bike. They have loaner bikes that you can use. Use that experience to help you narrow down your choices for a bike.

Above all, if you want to ride, good luck in getting a bike that makes you happy. Riding is one of the best things in the world and will make for some great life experiences.

Default No Competition!!!

Bro get a CBR!!!

I've been riding for a while now and i own a 06 cbr6rr and i've been on all of my friends 07 gsxr6, 08 cbr600 and 07 zx6r and The best starter bike would be a cbr600!

Honda doesnt play around when it comes to Motorcycles!
I can gaurantee you'll have a bunch of headaches with the Kawi and the Yama! i know cause of all the times i've had to help fix things on them

The CBR is realy comfortable (thats a big plus on a starter bike), and you probably wont get bored of the bike for a good 2 years... and if for some odd reason you start getting bored then just throw some mods on it!

Do research and i promise you that the CBR will come out on top 90% of the time!

Good luck bro!

I currently ride a TL1000R. Probably a little big for your first bike though.

My first bike was a 98 YZF600R. Perfect bike for a beginner in my opinion. I would definitley get something bigger than a 250 though as you will outgrow it fast. A 600 is a good start but go with a milder one such as a YZF or a Katana.

YZF 600 hands down, I know a few people that have had them and they say they wouldn't own any other bike in the same class.

Thanks. I went and looked at the Kawasaki Ninja 600 and the CBR 600 yesterday with my room mate as we are both thinking of getting a bike at the same time.

I am definitely leaning towards the CBR in Red

Don't forget insurance. If your age is correct in your profile, and you finance any of these I4 sport bikes, your premium will be insanely expensive. Have you considered this yet?
