i traded my 02 GTI VR6 for the xB...but not cause i was having any problems with it. i loved it. i just needed four doors, more room, and the xB's "cool factor"...

i'd get it again (or R32) if i could...

what kind, and what problems did you have with yours???

I still own mine but I am selling it here soon hopefully. I have owned it for almost six years and have never been stranded. Although, I did have a 3 year battle with the check engine light. Was in the shop 3 times and was never fixed. Fourth time I worked on it and fixed it....had to change the distributor because of a bad camshaft sensor. Anyways, it just seems the MK IV series have had lots of problems. I have a couple friends; one with a 01 golf that leaks peanut butter out of the molding and one with 02 beetle with broken window motor and ac problems. Fun cars to drive though.

We used to own a '97 Passat VR6 with Neuspeed STB, P-flo filters, and chip. Great car, one of the few VWs still made in Germany at the time. Even today, I think most VWs sold here in the U.S. are made in Mexico. Even the VW dealer told us they could tell the difference between one made in Germany and one in Mexico.

When I owned my SRT-4, there were a few threads comparing it against the R32. Apples and oranges to me, not to mention the HUGE price difference. If I could afford an R32, I get an STi instead, and put the few thousand I'd save into upgrades...

Never hada VW, but the xb frequently reminds me of what the original bug represented. A people's car, inexpensive to buy and operate, easy to drive, compact, spartan, quirky yet revolutionary in shape and design, ultimately practical...

Perhaps that why there are a bunch of ex-vw owners here.

First car was a stock '73 Super Beetle I had for 7 years and put more than 100,000 miles on it myself. Lots of trips back and forth to and from Florida & Virginia. Put in a 1835cc with dual 40mm Dellorto Carbs and a mild cam. I loved that Bug and hope to get another one day for a project car when I get a house w/ a garage.

_Real_ volkswagens have their engines in back!

I'm not a former VW owner, as I still have two VWs, a '69 bug and a '71 bus. The xB is nice, but nobody has come up with a replacement with the size and economy of a VW bus. It saves me from numerous speeding tickets, too!
