Mazdaspeed6: 3589 lbs, 274 hp, 280 tq, $28,555 (pretty porky)
Evo RS: 3219 lbs, 286 hp, 289 tq, $29,149 (wow)
STi: 3351 lbs, 300 hp, 300 tq, $32,995 (2nd wow)
WRX: 3192 lbs, 230 hp, 235 tq, $24,995 (my choice. cheap, fast, practical)
Legacy 2.5 GT: 3365 lbs, 250 hp, 250 tq, $28,795 (non too fast)
BMW 330xi: 3627 lbs, 255 hp, 220 tq, $38,500 (EXPENSIVE, slow porker)
G35X: 3650 lbs, 298 hp, 260 tq, $33,100 (quicker porker)

Read in a car mag that they said drive'n the Mazdaspeed6 was disappointing cause its so heavy.

Stopped into mazda today, they were closed. Walked around the lot and they didnt have and of the mazda Speed6's. Maybe monday they will be open and i can see. I wont get one but i want to drive it.

I'm sorry but I find that a very biased comparison. For one thing the Mazdaspeed6 should not even be compared with the WRX and EVO, that is competition for the upcoming Mazdaspeed3. Also, the BMW 330xi was not made for definitive performance like the M3 as much as a BMW that is good for driving in all seasons like the Mercedes 4Matics. However, that aside its performance is actually not that bad with going 0-60 in 6.9 seconds and a 1/4mile of 14.8.

But now back the the MSP6. A Subaru which it can better compare to is the Legact GT which like it, is a midsized sedan, weighs 3435lbs, has 250hp as welll exerting a max of 250 torque and can go 0-60 in 5.7 seconds with a 1/4mile of 14.3 seconds.

Mitsubishi doesn't make the Galant VR4 anymore and was out in the US from 1989-94. But when its production ended it had 276hp but 268 torque, went 0-60 in 5.9 seconds.

The Infiniti G35x, the only other car which was a fare comparison. Does have 298hp but the Mazdaspeed6 exerts 280lbs of torque which is 8 shy of the G35's. However, since the MSP6 has forcedinduction, a turbocharger, it spools up to the maximum torque level quicker.

So considering the numbers of the following cars I am confidently sure that the Mazdaspeed6 can reach from 0 to 60mph a bit below the guesstimated 6.2 seconds. And considering people have easily gotten the Legacy 2.5 GT into the 13s in the 1/4mile the same can probably be done for the Mazdaspeed6.

test drove the Mazdaspeed 6 yesterday, and oh dear lord!! this thing is b-e-a-utiful. comfortable as can be, amazingly well-done interior and just all-around fun to drive. acceleration is VERY smooth, and will put you in the back of the seat. my only complaint would be the wheels that they chose are not very appealing.

Actually, the high curb weight you see is supposed to be on the GT model...

someone on the mazda6 boards weighed in their car and it was not as heavy as they thought it would be.

There was a car mag and other owners who did the 0-60mph at about mid to low 5 seconds, which sounds completely reasonable

okay! test drove one as well, love it want it, might get it,ha!
awesome car, smooth power output , very confident in highspeed turns and beautiful sound from the motor, i am in love.

It's not a Ford.

Get a clue.

Ford has very little to do with the vast majority of Mazda products. What little they do is nothing to be concerned about.

When will the stupid Mazda = Ford rumors end?

If only Toyota would build cars half as exciting as Mazda does in the $15-$30k price range.

um when ford stops owning mazda is when the rumors will end. i'd still rock a mazda 6 theyre sexy.

toyota does build cars half as exciting. maybe not as exciting but at least 75% as exciting.

The comparison was for performance and price purposes, not luxury, of 4WD cars similar to the MS6.
No comparing the EVO or WRX but STI is ok??
MS3 will fall behind the WRX and EVO just as well as the MS6 does.
The M3 costs even more than the 330xi and is RWD only.
Why mention the Gallant VR4 if it isn't in production?
The MS6's torque isn't 8 shy of the G35X, its 20 over.

the car looks so sexy. If it came in automatic - i would definetely get it. I know, i know, cars like this aren't supposed to be automatic, but when you live in NYC it is not easy to live with a stick

If you live under driving conditions SO bad that driving a stick is out of the equation then there is no point in having a car like this.

It's not designed for accelerating as quickly as possible to 30 mph then jamming on the brakes while traffic slows to a crawl again, then illegally shooting over to the HOV lane to get one car ahead.

You may as well get a comfy leather-lined boat SUV with a sloppy automatic for that kind of driving and be like everyone else.

Ive always liked the 6. I bet this thing is great. Mazda makes some nice reliable stuff too for those people that bash it for being part owned by Ford.

In this months Car & Driver (Feb 06) they compare the Mazdaspeed 6 with the Accord EX V6, Acura TSX, Pontaic G6 GTP, and the VW Jetta GLI

5th - Pontaic G6 GTP
4th - Mazdaspeed 6
3rd - Acura TSX
2nd - Accord EX V6
1st - VW Jetta GLI

I think its a good article
