recently my friends been constant bragging about his mazda3... its faster, it handles better and all that jazz

i was wondering if thats really true?

They're a lil lighter and have about the same power, but since your a manual and hes an auto, u should be able to beat him...in a straight line at least.

your friend is bragging about his mazda3??

unless its a mazdaspeed which i really doubt, he shouldn't be bragging at all.
mazda3 = nextgen protege?

I think stock tc 5 speed vs. stock Mazda 3 2.3L 5 speed, they are about the same in terms of acceleration.... handling though, they are better. Your friend is auto so.....

I switched from an auto mazda3 S to a manual Tc. The mazda3 had amazing handling but the Tc wins in a straight line.

yep ... after wrecking the 06 tc, I test drove a mazda3 ... they do handle better, and I test drove a 5sp, it "seemed" quicker. Take that with a grain of salt, because I ended up with an 07 tC and it feels everybit as quick as the mazda3 did, though weight distribution is noticibly different. We all know this tho yea? I mean ... hellooooo .... glass roof? heh, which is without a doubt the coolest thing about the car IMO

I own both cars in Manual.

At stock trim, in the straights, it would be close, but my tC would take the win every time.

In the twisties though, forget it.

Yeah, you know.. those lowly proteges that handled so terribly that they had to be compared to THESE CARS.

1. Ferrari 360 Modena
2. Lotus Elise
3. Porsche 911 Turbo
4. Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII
5. Chevrolet Corvette Z06
6. Porsche Boxster S
7. BMW M3 coupe

You just owned yourself. The Protege and indeed the Mazda3 are a couple of the best handling FWD cars ever.

Actually, what you implied is that 3 owners shouldn't brag because a Mazda3 is just a nextgen Protege without knowing that the Protege is actually a pretty well respected car for people who don't just drive in straight lines. No need to sugar coat, we're all friends here.

Indeed the Mazda 3 did replace the Protege, but for those that were noticing cars for a while should remember the 323 hatch! Those were great! And then that got replaced by Protege. Anyhow, I dont even think the last generation shares anything with the new. Current Mazda 3 is based off a Volvo S40 I believe.

speaking of old mazdas, wish they brought back the rx-7
SSM_tC - now don't get me wrong, i think they are they are surperb economical cars for their pricetags. for the overall package, i believe mazda3 > civic lx/dx/ex. although, i wouldn't go up to a guy in a tC and brag about how my civic dx is better than his!?!? they're all in the same class... anyways, no problem man, we are all friends here
