If I was going to spend around $25K for a car I'd get the WRX. It's faster than anything else in that category, and price range.

If I was to get a Mazda it would be the Miata MX-5, or maybe wait until the new Mazdaspeed Miata comes out. This is Mazda's best car!

The WRX has less HP and torque and the MS3 isn't quite 25k, it's 23,900.

Considering that no one has any track times on the MS3 (other then some estimated 0-60 times), I wouldn't say the WRX is faster.

Unless you're talking about the STi, which is around 31k.

Actually Motor Trend just reviewed it against the wrx. The MS3 went 0-60 in 6sec and the 1/4 in 14.3 and the wrx did it in14.2. They also said the MS3is better then the wrx. I didnt read the article yet, but i would definently buy the ms3 over the wrx and i would definently trade my tc for one. A friend of mine went to the dealerhip and they are sellin them for 27K.

I wasn't being exact. The WRX TR model is $23K & change as well. It's motor is more proven though than anything Mazda has ever put out! Plus it's AWD system is far superior to the MS6! It (MS3) goes 0-60 in about 6.1, and the WRX in under 6! On the track I would be willng to but money that the WRX would beat the bloated MS3 buy a significant margin. It's faster, I don't need to see numbers on paper.

I'm sure the reason for it being favored over the WRX won't bear much on pefromance. It's probably a matter of amenities, comfort, and looks in wihich I would give that dept. to Mazda! Although I don't really hold quarter mile times with that much regard as to what makes a car perform better than another, it is just one of the different tests used to determine, and Subaru won that!

I have the mag and the wrx did 0-60 in 5.6 and yes they said that the ms3 would be the one thta the would buy...But in the mag they had a couple of pro drivers who did the track times and they both said that they would buy the wrx over the ms3. I wonder who knows better???? The stock wrx had snow tires. put better tires on there and it is going to hit the same times as the ms3. All wheel drive is far better then FWD as seen in the time numbers with the MPS haveing much better power numbers. Crap on FWD, AWD is far better and safer.

the mazdaspeed 3 is going to be the fastest front wheel drive car on the market, the wrx is a great car to compare to, however, as far as its class, its the fastest one in it.

and you can quote me on it because ive read it in a couple magazines unless anyone has actually seen otherwise printed

the power reduction in 1st and 2nd gear is based on the wheel position. If the car is turning power will be reduced by up to 20 percent depending on the steepness of the turn angle. This is to eliminate torque steer. If the wheels are pointed forward then there is no reduction in power what so ever.

If you want one you better put your money down now, only 5000 coming this year. I have deposits on 2 of them.

the mazdaspeed 3 is a bada-- car. the performance is awesome.

i toyed with the idea of getting something like that. but then i realized i couldnt part with my tc. not for another fwd anyway :D

but anyway, the mazdaspeed3 is now the "hottest" hatch. until the 135 from bmw is out anyway. turbo 300 horses in a small hatch with rwd? amazing. but of course, lots of money.

also, as i recall in a stock car race i cant recall, of all sorts of cars, a cobalt ss won. and its fwd. so its not that bad. especially considering cars like the m3 were also entered. its all on the driver.

the speed3 starts at 22k. The wrx is considered, by mazda, an up target. Meaning they were looking to slay the sport compact market while still aiming for higher end cars like the wrx and evo. Car and driver got a 5.6 0-60 time out of the speed 3 beating the wrx by .1 for much less money. The great thing about this the speed3 was designed like most mazda's for handling not power. All the pro drivers go on and on about how good the speed3 handles right out of the box. The handling will only get better, mazda is working on a coil over upgrade for the car already.

So they designed the car to handle like no other....and it has performance like cars well above its price range.

Blah! I've said it once and I'll say it again. The best car Mazda has ever produced is the Miata, and I won't be crazy for anything they put out until a MS MX-5 is released.

Mazdaspeed 3 looks like an awesome car for it's price, but would I be willing to pay for premium while only getting about 18 mpg? not really (and yes the Mazdaspeed 3 only get's 18mpg)

Man, the MS3 is a sweet car, but i can already feel that markup that mazda is going to have when this car is first released. But then again, its like that for every new hyped car. Plus, i think i heard that only 5000 will b imported here.

Wrx is far from well above the price range. ms3 24,500 vs wrx 25,599. As far as tuning we know that you throw 1000 bucks at the wrx and you can make a big difference. We will see with the ms3 but time will tell. my money is on wrx. AWD... come on people!

I know that is the starting price for the TR. The normal one which has much better options start at 25,599 with trip charge. I would not buy the TR.
