Celica with rattling lawnmower-sounding Subaru engine FTL. I hope it comes with a 100,000+ warranty on the head gaskets.

Ummm, can we say conflict of interest? Why would Toyota build two cars that would, other than being RWD, directly compete with the WRX and STI? Toyota would lessen their own stock in Fuji Heavy Ind. I call BS.

well i can honestly say i dont like that, fortunately those cars pretty much never come out like they are at those shows, so hopefully they make it look better than that.

I don't think a new Celica would directly compete with WRX/STI. Those are AWD 4 door sedans and wagons.

The Celica will likely be a 2 door hatch or sporty coupe. Not the same class of car. I don't see why Toyota would borrow engines from Subaru though when they have plenty of their own 4 cylinders that are much smoother and more reliable than anything Subaru makes. I suspect they are really after the AWD drivetrain and the boxer motor probably comes along with it. They probably also want to use some of Subaru's production capacity. They are already building Toyotas in one of Subaru's North American plants under contract.

That article is pretty much the same as this one:

http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/10/t...-subaru-boxer/

I hope they come out with something, I've ordered an xB to get me by 'til then.

Hope they make a cheap fast light rwd Celica and a moderately priced 4wd GT-Four. Got my Celie to tide me over till they do.

Still kinda odd though. Subie doesn't really need another sporty car in their lineup. The WRX and STI somewhat cover it all. Also with todays younger generation of car buyers Subie is more well known for sports cars than Toyota. Which, kinda makes ya wonder if anyone will buy the toyota version. *shrug* I'd be one tho.
