yet Porsche is still INDEPENDANT...turns a profit each year... and actaully owns 25% of VW (Bugatti Parent company) What good is it to make your cars "as plush, powerfulll, and technolocily advanced as possible" if no one is buying them???

incase your still unsure
"Porsche has been successful in many branches of motor-racing, scoring a total of more than 23,000 victories"
"24 hours of Le Mans where they have won 16 times overall (more than any other company, Ferrari has 9, Bugatti has 2), plus many class wins."
"Porsche has also participated in Formula One racing...supplying engines badged as TAG units for the McLaren Team. Porsche-powered cars took two constructor championships in 1984 and 1985 and three driver crowns in 1984, 1985 and 1986."

a list of major wins available here
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche#Motor-racing

what was that about a red-headed step child????

lol, wow, this went from a statement about porsche tryin to make a car to compeat with the veyron... to a friendly debate about the two companies.... to a totaly thread jacked (im guilty too) conversation about whos the better manufacturer. truth is theyre both awesome companies, bugatti made bad bussines decisions but this wasnt suposed to be about who makes more money.

bugatti currently has the top car, porsche may very well beat it, then somebody else will, yada, yada, etc, etc.

Porsche ROOLS!!! Bugati DROOLS!!!!

Sorry, just had to get to the 3rd grade level first!!! HAHAHAH..

J/k...Bugati has a demon of a car and the fact that you can actually drive it at less than 100 mph to fetch a gallon of milk is somewhat amazing. Not that you'd be doing that if you had that kind of dough....

The Porsche is only 51 HP short of the current Veyron.

I don't know, whatever that 950 HP Porsche concept was on the front page.

How much do we have to spend to make 51 HP in our tCs lol.

ah, ha...... key word concept. theres lots of cars out there, well maybe not lots, that have more hp/tq and better numbers than the veyron, but we're talkin production cars... i assume he was at least....... and right now veyron rules the road

I say that Porsche doesn't do it. I love Porsche and the Veyron's awesome, but it just doesn't seem like something that Porsche would do.

I never liked the Veyron, i just felt that a car that uses a W16 and four turbos should get a lot more than 1,000hp. Heck a Koenigsegg CCX makes 900hp with only a V8, two superchargers and running on Bio-methanol.

here in Palm Springs CA. a Porsche is as exciting as seeing a honda, every fricken person seems to have them! (except me that is ) That is probably why I choose the Bugatti over the Porsche...I will take fantasy over commonplace any day :D

and chris rado's 2.7L makes over 1,600whp.... a lot goes into how much horsepower you want to get out, vs tourque, gearing, etc... and the veyron is an accelerating machine, example (and yea ive stated this in other threads) take a McClaren F1 lined up to a Veyron, its a race to 200mph, let the F1 go first... let it accelerate all the way to 130mph then let the bugatti go... guess who wins?

The key thing is the single reason. It's just beyond bizarre, and quite frankly smacks of marketing hoopla. As if 240mph isn't plenty of speed to do disasterous things with. Other than that, I've just been in love with Porsche since as long as I can remember, so I'd love to seem them reclaim their position on the throne.

anyone remember the 959? (<----- Can someone make an emoticon for this?)

Well I dont think that it allows 240 in normal driving as thats a whoping 15 mph less then key mode. I thought it was more like 180, 160 or so.

The key thing is there because at those speeds a slight jerk in the steering wheel can cause major disasters and so they don't want idiots trying to turn a corner at 220. Secondly, the car has stability problems after 254, and the key thing is there so that you must be TRYING to get high speed to actually do it. Thirdly, in high speed mode if you turn the steering wheel too much it cuts out of that mode. This also means you must be intending to do 254 and have ample room to do it in to get there.

While it might be a little annoying to have to stop the car to do the double key thing, bottom line is that each and every engineer that worked on that system feels responsible for the drivers. And if any single one of them tries to do something stupid because they don't understand why its stupid and kills themself, that life is on their head.

Obvious! The Veyron!

Because what other car has a $10,000 option to put a diamond in the center of the stering wheel???

Ya know, the BMW M3 has become like that in my area. Such a shame to see such capable and quality cars being used as shopping bag luggers for wealthy wives. They could be doing the exact same thing in my tC, while I could be appreciating the M3.
