Its a rotary engine. I'm a huge RX fan and have owned 3 RX-7's. They redline like a sport bike and are very fast, with super handling.

yeah im kinding of thinking about trading the tc in for one. what a rotary engine actuality do, whats makes it different and able to be so small with a high output, and do they have low end still?

Not much low end, thats why it revs so high. Its completely different than the piston engines you may want to check out wikipedia and see the history and how it works.

I too considered the RX-8, I used to own a first gen RX-7 and loved it. Here is some information on the engine type:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wankel_engine

Some great information there.

And here specifically on the different generations:

I dated a girl who owned a RX-8 I friggin loved the car very quick real fun & sporty. I rented 1 before she bought hers and pushed it up to 125 on a quiet highway (scared the crap outta myself too fastest I ever drove and feared the law chasing me) but all in all I would trade my tc in without a problem for 1 (if I didnt have soo many bills to pay and didnt enjoy modding my tc)

I agree... i had a rental RX-8 sport package for a month... they are not anywhere as close to the boasting they get.

And they are slower than stock tC... guaranteed!
handling is a no-no as well

I'd hate to disagree but I beg to differ. A stock tC does high 15's stock, and a RX-8 does high 14's, the RX-8 is also a full second faster 0-60. tC's are fast but not that fast. As far as handling goes there isn't much than can match the handling of an RX-8, i've seen stock RX-8's on the track racing Skylines (which are obvioulsy more powerful) win only because they have great handling.

well, your rental rx8 was probably pretty ragged out from previous drivers, but they are handling machines, that is it.

rotary engines are awesome, but they are not very fuel efficient, and wear out, and mechanics are not very familiar with them.

so to sum up, fun for spirited driving, but not very economical.

Peaky high revving motor with no torque whatsoever. Great car if you like Hondas of a similar nature. ____ poor for modding as they get terrible mileage to begin with and are ____ing awful with a turbo. Not a great car if you are doing alot of city driving.

Err...

Most higher revving lower capacity engines get better gas milage than low revving high capacity engines. Simply put, low revving big bore V8s suck way more gas than either high revving vtec honda 4 bangers or turbo RX7s.

RX8's are slow, eat oil just as much as they eat gas, and the motors are high maintenance. They do handle well and look ok.

rx-7 is a way better than the rx-8, so much better i'll have to create a fictional one to make my point. it is like a million ga=jillion times better.
