Default Saturn bringing Opel astra to the US..

Okay so looks like GM is getting their act together, and bringing over the Opel Astra and TwinTop convertibles.. as re-badged saturns..
what are your thoughts as fellow scioners do you think this would be competition for the scion lineup??

I've always like Opel's but why a rebranded saturn? oh well, at least they are finally going to make a stateside appearance. Simple design, nice cars. Although the wagon reminds me strangely of the Chevy Malibu Maxx. . . I still like the Opel's though

What would you rather the Astra be rebranded as, a Chevy. The whole point of Saturn was to have a line-up of economy cars that can compete with imports, specifically Japanese. So what better way to do it than, with an import?

I hope they have a redline model that will be turbocharged and tuned like the Astra VXR. The ION seemed to be a good economy car schematics wise but reality showed something a bit different, pitched and handled worse than its SC2 predisessor. It is a shame to see Saturn dump some of its origonality though, with the dent resistent plastic and low reving but torquey SOHC engines but the people have spoken and the ECOTEC is a good engine as well as the Astra being a great car to base upon as well as giving true variety amongst GM in the US.

I love the designs of the opels. espcially this one..

like it better than my celie. course it looks a lot like my celie.
I wouldn't buy one tho. its reliability isn't gunna be very good.
lets hope it at least drives as well as it looks.

When in Germany in February, we had an Opel Astra 1.6 for a rental car. It was a four-door hatch with a 5-speed, and it was great! We had it up to 115mph (170kph) on the Autobahn, and it did very well. When they bring the Astra over as a Saturn, I'd look at replacing our Civic with one, assuming we don't buy an xA first.

Umm the Opel Astra has been out for about 3 years longer than the Caliber, that statement should be mentioned the other way around. Dont you folks ever research?
