Default Serious Cobalt recall...

If you have a Chevy Cobalt built between 2005 and 2006 that doesn't have the optional roof-mounted side impact airbags, you could be getting a recall notice in the mail soon. Apparently Chevy (and presumably the NHTSA) discovered that there isn't sufficient padding to meet federal requirements in these vehicles, and unacceptable head injuries could result in a collision. Scary to think there's an acceptable amount of injury that would be tolerated, but anyway. As a fix, dealers will add "energy absorbing plastic" to the headliner trim to help soften the blow should your head strike the headliner in a crash. The recall affects 98,000 Cobalts on the road.
Maybe if they didn't fix it, GM was worried that the sustained head injury would rattle their brain enough to realize that they bought a POS . Hope Cobalt owners get it fixed before they come to this realization though.

A friend of mine has one of the first 06 SS Supercharged Cobalts in Florida. Hes had it in the shop 3-4 times. First was a engine coolant leak around 2k miles, supposebly fixed by putting a new clamp on. Second was, the entire moonroof assembly had to be replaced, and since then, the moonroof button surround plastic piece keeps falling off. Third, was to REPLACE THE RADIATOR, at only 6k Miles, Engine Coolant began pooring out of the engine. GM Engineers though it was a good idea to mount the radiator and the intercooler so that they physically touch each other. Hmmm, Vibrations couldn't wear a hole in the radiator could it? Fourth, was to fix that moonroof surround piece mentioned earlier.

Other than that, that car is friggin fast. 205 HP from the factory, then with 1K of Dealer installed performance parts (New ECU flash, supercharger pulley, More Powerful Injectors, and Exhuast) he has 255 HP. Thats awesome. He can take STOCK RX8s now.

^^^ The SS is fast, and it's too bad the RX-8 isn't as fast as it looks.

GM has had a problem with cooling systems for their cars forever. Many people blame the DEX-COOL anti-freeze. I see GM cars in my shop on a daily basis for coolant problems. The recall thing, I hope everyone gets the notice cause I have a ton of customers who never even know about a recall until the thing goes wrong.
In a way I am glad Toyota and GM broke off their "partnership".

Wow, now you can buy an RX-8 for cheaper than a Cobalt SS with a stage one upgrade. Neon SRT-4's as well, are cheaper and faster. Mazda 3Turbo's are close in price(little higher) and the most powerful FF car on the market now. So why would I want to buy a Cobalt again?

all cars get those. But imagine getting the recall for the engines on the RX-8. complete swaps. Rotory's are one engine that doesn't belong in the American public.

^^^ Although 268(ish)hp is amazing from only 1300cc, the Wankel system is a bit much! LOVE the design, probably the most beautiful interior on the market for less than $50k.

^^^ No, what I was saying is that the RX-8 has a better interior than any vehicle $50k or less. NEW ones start at $27,030 (www.mazdausa.com).
