Toyota Tundra -- Diesel in sight?
As a big fan of both large trucks and Toyota products, I was just thinking of the large truck market and Toyota's spot in it. My father had a 1990 toyota pickup, which subsequently ended up being my first vehicle. Imports have long been the bastard children of the full-size/heavy-duty truck world. To me, the approach with the new Tundra is an obvious attempt by Toyota to crack that market once and for all...
...but my question is this:
Why haven't they developed a diesel motor for the Tundra?
At least here in California, Diesel is IT when it comes to full size trucks. My brother owns a diesel, my father owns a diesel, and countless of my friends own diesels. The advantages of a diesel motors in full size trucks are endless, and it seems to me that Toyota needs to be working on that aspect of the market. People want to tow fifth-wheels, large trailers, campers, etc. with their big trucks. The most efficient way to tow is with diesel by far (my brother gets 19mpg towing a 35ft fifth-wheel with his Cummins)...it just seems to me, that if Toyota REALLY wants to impress the market, they should apply their expertise in quality, reliable vehicles, and invest into this segment of the market.
Just throwing that out there as food for thought, and some intelligent analysis!
p.s. and if anyone has HEARD about plans...then that would quench my speculation.
