I would actually have to go with the Mustang on this solely on the basis that it will get the better launch because it is RWD and exterts 20lbs more of torque.
The only way I can see the Eclipse GT winning is if the Mustang driver does a worse launch or if the probability of the Eclipse GT having a better top end, since the 280hp 3.8 in it has variable valve timing as well as much better aerodynamics helps it pull through towards the end. Either way it will probably be very close even the Mustang GT does weigh 200lbs less.

I'd say a victory for the eclipse. That was the first generation of the SOHC 4.6V8, rated at an embarassing 215hp. FYI, this is less powerful than than the old 5.0 foxbody mustang v8's from 1988 - 1993. Oh, this only holds true if the mustang is relatively stock though.
