Default Scion xB Excluded from SCCA Autocross Eligibility.

The March 07 FastTrack (SCCA rules newsletter, linkHere) Has the Scion xB Specifically Excluded from all Solo (Autocross) classes except STS. Anyone who does SCCA Autocross knows that while not a top runner in H Stock, the xB does OK, however in STS it has "a Snowballs chance" so to speak.

The Fasttrack specifically reads "5. General: Add to the unstable vehicle examples in 3.1, third paragraph: Scion xB. NOTE: The xB is eligible for STS." which would make the rulebook read"
Unstable vehicles with a high center of gravity and a narrow track, including SUV’s, minivans, and 4WD pickups, must be excluded (e.g. Suzuki Samurai, Jeep CJ series, and GEO Tracker/Suzuki Sidekick)Scion xB. NOTE: The xB is eligible for STS. Extra caution should be exercised with non-traditional vehicles, e.g. trucks using racing slicks"

WHATEVER!!! The xB would be just fine, with a little suspension work there is very little chance of rolling.

I've autocrossed the xB a few times and it was a blast, but I would think twice about putting r-compound tires on it. They would make you faster but still never fast enough to be competitive on a regional or national level. Which shouldn't matter much since I don't know of anybody that has bought one to take to national competitions.

An xB on race tires with stock suspension could get on 2 wheels pretty quickly under the right conditions. Sticky tires + High COG = Unplanned Stunt Show.

By limiting it to STS it has to race on street tires and has the option of a better aftermarket suspension set up. An STS set up should work out great for the xB.

In the end it's good to know xBs are still allow to compete since people seem to get a out of watching them when they are on course.

I wanted to autocross my xB but never got around to finding out what it entails. My xB is far from stock all the way around and especially in the suspension department....

yup it's all about banning the use of R compounds on them, which is a smart safety idea, too much lateral grip in the box is bad

yeah the xA is too narrow on top and too wide on the bottom to tip.

I think we should be happy the SCCA is letting the xB compete at all. I competed last year (once) in STS. I didn't have a snowballs chance anyway. The 4th-gen Civics in our area always win.

And to be completely honest, I doubt an xB -- amazing driver or not -- would have much of a chance in the H stock category.

I, for one, am happy that we have been classed at all. In fact (assuming my car is out of the shop by this weekend) will be running STS out here this weekend.

I will be doing my first autocross this weekend in the box....

Have tanabe DF210 springs, TRD Struts, Tanabe front Strut Tower bar, and 205/50/15s on it.

I think it will hold its own...we last night on a tight drive through the hills with some civics and what not...they would pull me in the straight areas but I caught back up in the corner...that could of also been driver though.

Just did an SCCA autox today. The car did very well; a much stronger showing this time than last time. Faster than some Lotuses and much faster cars. It was pretty funny to see an xB with a faster time than a Lotus. Then again, I kept missing this one cone, so they'd tack on 10 additional seconds. I had a blast, though, and ZERO problems registering.

we just had an auto-x on an actual race track. it was on part of the track at Carolina Motorsports Park. They did add some cones to slow it down a bit, but it was still extremely fast. and EXTREMELY fas for an auto-x. The car felt great on the track and no1 should be nervous ripping one of these babies around a track. It's just too bad the long straights made this auto-x a HP contest cause I am finally starting to get better. O well, there is next weekend. Continental Tires is sponsoring a 4 race series in our region.

That's cool. I had planned to go to CMP to check it out, but my plans changed at the last minute. I thought I read the website right, and that the autox was on the track. How did you end up doing? Were there any other xBs there? I've been to a couple races before, but have never actually competed, but I'd like to give it a try. What's involved, and where is the next event?

i ended up last in my class and almost last overall and almost last PAX. I am usually the only xB. One other xB showed up once and ended up doing awesome. He was an awesome driver.

our next local event is at Continental Tires on Sunday in Charlotte. It's very close to the NC/SC border. I plan on goin to watch. I may run, not sure yet.

I'm going to the car show at Lowe's on Saturday, so I probably won't drive up again on Sunday. What do you need, other than a helmet, to run? Hopefully I'll meet you at one sooner than later.

u actually dont need a helmet. u can borrow the "sweat buckets." and they can mark ur windows w/ shoe polish or use painters tape.
