Default tc vs. prelude

so, i know this guy who drives a 99 manual honda prelude, as far as performance mods, he does not have much, i know he his an exhaust but i think he mentioned it only gave him like 5-10 more horsepower than before, so he says that he car would own me if we raced..

i have a 07 auto tc, so far with no performance mods

so any thoughts??

First of all, the prelude was rated at about 195 horsepower with no mods at all. Second, the fact that you drive an automatic probably means he could beat you in a race without that power advantage. Why bother racing anyway??...you drive an automatic. What are you proving, that you can press the gas pedal harder? Take my word for it, don't even try.

you'd need a turbo to beat him.

my friend has a prelude manual with exhaust and claims it has a little under the hood.

it has bout 100,000 miles on it and he "says its 200 hp."

ive never personally raced him but we mess around on the highway all the time when the time calls for it.

from a dig he wold beat me by m aybe 1-1 1/2 car lenghts.

from a 80+ roll i took off on him until about 100 then we were even then at about 110 he pulled on me and was right with me then started pulling away.

i mean i have an auto tc and was right with him and he admitted that my caar could "hang" with his so i dunno... all i got is a exhaust. that dont do anything so try it. the worst you can say is you got beat by a car with 30+ more hp than you...

ps. ive also rode in a 05, 06, and i own a 07 tc. i personally think the 07's are faster but dont really know why.

10more hp. Do your research. Sae corrected method of testing for 07 yields lower numbers then the previous method of testing. Thats why toyota redesigned some of the engines internals (mostly pistons) to make up for the diffrent testing method. It also has a broader torque curve.

thanks for the input, i didnt think that i would too good if i did end up racing him anyways, just wanted some reinforcement..it might be fun to check it out, and see how bad he beats me..

and the only reason i drive an automatic is bc i am only 20 and my rents had to co-sign for my car, told me if they were co-signing i had to get an auto, made me mad but theres nothing i can do about it..just try to make the best of it!

i used to drive a 97 prelude.....the manual tc will take the prelude off the line, but on the upper end of the power band, thats where the honda will catch up.....vtec kicks pretty hard in the lude, but the tc has a better low end torque.....plus you can't race auto and manual, and don't even trying using the 3/2/d, etc....

Uh...10hp? Where did you get your info? Everything I have researched inclusing the 07 sitting in the garage next to the 06 says the 07 has 161hp and that would be +1 hp over an 06??

beginning in the 2007 model year, cars were tested differently to give more accuarate HP and TQ numbers. they are now tested to much more real life conditions, and manufacturers can no longer use different methods such as high octane fuel or anything else you can think of to increase teh numbers. so to keep the numbers on target, toyota did some work on the internals to produce an extra 11hp. a 2006 tC, tested by 2007 standards, would be rated about 150 hp, not 160.

^^^ yuup! This has been discussed a few times but some folks refuse to believe it (mainly 05-06 owners). I heard they will revise soon again to an even better standard (not sure how) and EPA MPG will be revised greatly.

I honestly feel that Prelude owners (all the ones that I see) are cocky as hell. I mean is the car really all that great?
