Default I Paid $750 for this Crappy Job at Keye's Scion

Continueing from the thread about how I got hit by a huge rock on a freeway...

Like I said, I decided to pay load of money more for a factory windshield.

$750 not including tax!!!

So, I pick up the car in the morning before I go to work. And as I am driving off from the lot, I immediately notice this aweful hissing sound sipping into the cabin. It was the sound of engine reving up sneaking into the interior of the car.

Not only that, I noticed all this terrible job on the rubber seal around the window...

I called back to file a complaint. (and besides the point of having wrong phone numbers on their website of their service dept, and transfering my call to several different depts with very bad attitudes...) I was told to bring the car in (with out any apology... and acting like I have all time in the world). Well, I couldn't bring the car in next day. Because I had this pounding headache. So, I brought the car in next day... it was this past Saturday. And some service guy there tells me that the person who was in charge for my car is not there that day. And they can't do anything about it until Monday. I asked them if I can leave the car there, because I didn't want to bring the car in again. And he tells me their lot is full. And tells me to bring the car in on Sunday night.

Other than doing the bad job on the service they charged my arm and a leg, it doesn't sound that serious of problem. In fact, I was just gonna let it go if they apologize and take care of the problem. But, I am pretty ____ed off about their attitude and utter lack of responsibility.

If you see the seal along the edge of the windshield, you can see how the line is so irregular. And some sort of black tar/sealant is smudged everywhere...

Detail of the same picture...

Another detailed picture...

from inside... on the corner of the window, you can see the seal peeking out of the place... with more of that black silicon/tar/sealant smudged...

go get it redone. Don't accept that crap. Take it up with the manager and if they don't want to redo it, than report to the consumerguide and BBB and local paper.

well, they did say to bring it back.

Scion really needs their own dedicated service centers. it's crazy trying to get some work done on Scions with all these Toyota cars...

Well, I commend you on getting an OEM windshield.....

That has to be the worst windshield job I have ever seen....
I bet you money that the toyota service center you took your xB too didnt actually do the work.... What most dealerships do is subcontract out the work wo one of those "mobile" winsheild places.....

any ways, I had my windshield replaced at a glass shop that ordered a OEM windsheild from the dealership ( took alot of legwork on my part)- the glass shop told me that these "mobile" windsheild places dont do good jobs because that usually only have 1 guy do the work- well it is difficult to do a windsheild buy yourself.

I would ask your dealer is they actually did the work...

regaurdless, the are resonsible for the work the did/ hired out...

keep us posted!

Absolutly take it back!

I wish all the dealerships were as nice and detail oriented as Elmhurst Scion out in the Chicago Suburbs. I can't recommend them enough!

You would be stupid not to take it back and have them remove the window and order you new seals and reinstall it the right way !

Also, paint damage ....

Man, I would be spitting bullet's at them and not alone asking for some cash back for THEIR ____TY WORK ..

A freakin monkey could have down this better ........

Have you ever used a "mobile" windshield place? I have used Safelite Auto Glass (1-800-800-2727) several times and have had no problems with them. They replaced the windshields on three of my old cars and one of our company vans. I also used them recently to repair the rock chips in my tC's windshield. They did an excellent job everytime. They also offer competitve pricing. I highly recommend them.

I have a feeling they "out sourced" the windshield replacement job. When I called in saying that i don't have all the time in the world to bring the car in as they see it, the service guy was like... "oh, we will send someone to your place". I hardly doubt they would send one of their own technicians to my place.

Anyways, of course I'm going to take the car back and demend complete repair job. I also filed complaint with Scion. I will let you know what happens...

Why isn't Scion working hard to establish good dealerships? It seems like there are tons of Scion dealers (that are part of some mega Toyota lot). But, according to people's review in this site, there are only few dealers that has good rep...

Man I would not be happy at all with that job at all. It looks like they just droped the glass in and parked the car on a hill at an angle so that the windshield drifted to where it is now. Personaly I would have refused to pay untill the car was right and requested a loaner because at this point it isn't your fault you can't use the car it is theirs. Also you might want to let them that if your car is in an accident and a person goes thru the improperly installed windshield it is their falt. I live in sue happy CT, and believe me the quality of windshield repair went way up after the places that were just slaping in glass with whatever to hold it in started geting sued for accidents where people were hurt because of improper windshield instals.

IMO, i'd guess they DID do it in-house. They should've farmed it out and some tech probably thought they could do it and save a few $$. How many windshields does the dealer do in a week? How many does a glass shop or a mobile installer do? Experience is key!!!

I recently moved and I'm right around the corner from Keys Toyota in Van Nuys. Took my xB in for some work and a oil change. To make a long story short. I have no plans on going back there. I had some troubles with them too. I still have some issues that need to be taken care of and each time I'm told that a supervisor needs to approve the work. As always, they claim he's out to lunch or out of town.

I was told that is list for $1050, but my glass shop got it for $525, and it was $75 for the install........

The reason why I went with a Toyota windshield is because I dont anyone to know it was ever replaced....

Your job should have come out the same....

did you get it fixed yet?
