Default Nish-Designs Vendor Review

This is a vendor review for Nish Designs and owner, Gary Nishimura. The content is based on my experience in dealing with them (him) since before Christmas. It is not meant to be a definitive review of the companies’ business practices, just my experience with them (him).

In early December I inquired about the cost of a 6 piece full splitter set in carbon fiber and a mesh fog light insert. I received a reply a couple of days later with pricing, which wasn’t too bad except for the outrageous shipping charges. A cashiers check was sent the first few days of January for the total amount. After multiple e-mails I finally received my products on February 28. Here is where everything starts to go downhill. The product that I received was not finished. There was no edge molding and no clear coat at all – just a couple pieces of poorly cut carbon fiber sheet and no fog light insert. The pieces looked nothing at all like the pictures on his web site or the other Nish splitters here on SL.

I contacted them (him) and they said someone must have forgotten to finish them before they were sent out. Really, someone forgot? I thought this was a one-man operation? Anyway, I sent the pieces all back via UPS Second Day Service on March 1st, having to pay the return shipping charge myself. I received them back again, this time in their finished state, but still missing the mesh fog light insert, on March 18. Pieces are installed on my car now and look good, but I am thinking of going another direction and might take them off.

As of today, I am still waiting on the mesh fog light insert and the promised decals. I send an inquiry every couple of days and now, for the last couple of weeks, he has stopped responding.

Nicest guy in the world to deal with. E-mail replies (when you get them) are always apologetic and the excuses and solutions all sound great. “I’ll send them this week, if not sooner.” I had read a number of other stories here on SL of people having the same type of problems but I thought I would take a chance. Now I wish I didn’t. Please let this post serve as a warning. I also have saved all correspondence in case I needed it to file a mail fraud claim with the USPS if anyone thinks that this is all made up by me.

Please feel free to share your experiences here on this thread – either good or bad.

Bottom line is this – nice stuff, if you can ever get it, and get it right.

He finally sent me a reply after 3 more weeks and said he had been sick and would ship the rest of my order on Tuesday (4/25). Nothing STILL has shown up yet, won't answer e-mails again, and now his website no longer works. BUYERS BEWARE!

Well, at least you got somthing. Many of us did not. Both Mr. Nish and his authorized reseller Thomas Musante at Scion Mag are the worst on line retailers I've had experiences with.
Both are adept at excuses , most are so bold as to be believed.
Maybe this is all a known fact to LA and SF Scion owners but to those of us who are not part of that community, a thread like this is a blessing.
And lying to your customers , even if done in an apologetic way is still lying.
I really don't know how these two stay in business

On behalf of scionmag.com I would like to state my side of things and doing business with Nish Designs.

Scionmag started carrying Nish Design products about a year ago. At this time I did not have a day job and was working my site as a means of capital. I however did need to get a full time job and at that time I started working a job that had me working nights and sleeping during the day. Hence no updates went into scionmag and I had no time for much of anything. I have since moved the site in a direction of news and stories. Basically what scionmag was originally started as, I really have not been doing any retail sales.

As for Nish, I know he is a busy person with a 9-5 of his own. I can't speak for him but hopefully I have enlightened you to my side.

If you have any further questions please feel free to email me or send me an IM.

See, convincing isn't he...... Despite the " updated excuses" you will note he still lists himself as " Official Nish Design Dealer"
Do business with this pair at your own risk.

As stated in my prior conversation... I work, if you need to know grave shift. I sleep during the day and work at night. Time doesn't come easy to me. I do support Nish in his business and what he desides to do in the future. 05CAMO you have pm, please contact me if you have further questions.

Judging from your PM, you're the one with questions.
And the folks you stiffed , they work too

Please PM with the info of who I have stiffed, scionmag.com, on Nish Design deals and we can work this out. Any other dealings that Nish Designs has had are not mine and should be brought to Gary.

05CAMO, please provide any information to Thomas regarding orders YOU submitted through his website for Nish Design products. Let Thomas handle that with you directly.

That being said, I too put an order in DIRECTLY with Gary and only received half of it. This was in Nov/Dec of `04. I just gave up on it. So I think this issue (and other customers) isn't with the supplier but rather the manufacturer.

I have delt with Scionmag in the past. I asked for an unpainted unfinished piece and the product I received was what I asked for. Shipping did take longer than expected but I was prepared for that at the time after reading reviews of Nish's work. Scionmag replied to all my e-mails not only on scionlife but would send me updates on occasion through AIM.

My suggestion is to read up on people selling. Nish has designed stuff for scion members for over 2 years. There are plenty of topics on his work and time period. When purchasing a product in the future I would take this into consideration.

In the past couple of months Gary has separated his elbow, taken up a new job, and due to the separated elbow, has seriously fallen behind on many tasks.

Last time I saw him he had 30 sets of rims to paint. To tell you the truth, I can't remember the last time I saw him.

Not only that, he's involved with a major project with TRD right now and I know he's running on a very hectic schedule wtih that, a job, and catch up work.

Hopefully Gary will respond....but I don't know if he even checks e-mails anymore

Last time I saw Nish he was at Scion Triathlon II.. i saw his car (parked out in the middle next to another hot lava.. but just those two off by themselves).. and he was around somewhere (didn't really see him much)... and he didn't seem very sociable and really stressed out.

yeah... new job along with other complications... he's fallen behind. he's a great guy, but right now he's just well... trying to get things back in order.

Nish is very respectable and he's doing his best.

Yeah well this whole post explains things, I was recommended my Verone at longo Scion to have Nish paint my rims, but I could never get a hold of the guy and his site was there one day and gone the next. He probably pulled the site down himself so that he can get ahead. He probably should have pulled it long before he did.
