Default Service.. tire rack vs. discount tire

wanted to let everone know, even iowagary..

turns out the p zero nero m&S did turn out to be defective.. tire rack kept telling me that it was "the road" that was causing this vibration.. finally took it to discount tire.. and sure enough, they balanced it and looked.. tire was out of round.. tire was moving up and down by 1/2 inch! 3 of the 4 tires were defective. I wanted to let everyone know that every time I have bought tires from tirerack they have all turned out to be unbalanceable! I am done with them. I tried to get them to see they were out of round, but they didn't care.. so screw 'em.. I have a feeling they are selling blemished tires.. no way i can prove it.. but seems kind of odd that every tire either I, friends or family have bought from them turns out to be defective. Sure, they'll get on here and defend themselves.. fact is... people need to know about them..

Discount Tire's price was like $15 more.. but at least they'll stand behind it! sheesh.. I think it was good of Discount Tire to actually go the extra mile and get a warranty replacement, something Tire Rack didn't even care to do.. what an outfit..

The new Pzero nero m&s are great.. SO SMOOTH! went up to 75 and even 80 briefly.. and felt like I was only doing 40 mph! nice.. nothing wrong with the tires now, i think it's because of discount tire.. so you pay less $$$ but don't get any help if something goes wrong.. I've fought with Tire Rack before on bad tires and all they cared about was the money, not the service, and i was dumb to go back.. well not me, never again.. just letting all scion owners know about them..

would I get the pzero nero m&s again? sure.. tires are awesome.. service is also important discount tire for me!

I have to agree, I will only purchase tires from Discount Tire now...they have locations all over, they are very helpful, prices are excellent. I bought a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3's and have loved them. They are an excellent tire and discount tire gave me a really good price on them (and they were on back order everywhere else).

Usually Discount Tire's prices are a little higher, because they get their tires from Tire Rack! So the theory of DT's tires being "better", doesn't quite work.

????? I would like to know where you found this information? Just for my own personal reasons, I'd love to hear why DTD (who is a monster compared to Tire Rack, size-wise/volume-wise) who is direct with every tire manufacturer would buy from TR....please explain?

By the way, I will never buy from TR again, I had a same "out-of-balance/non-balanceable" tire issue with tires from TR....

Discount Tire's local stores here sometimes get tires from Tire Rack's headquarters here in the South Bend, IN area. If you noticed, somebody earlier said that Discount Tire's price was higher. Tire Rack is a distributor for the manufacturers, just as you say Discount Tire is. The tires, at least, are no different. Our dealership does business with them, that's how I got my info.

Where did you get the information that DT is "a monster" compared to Tire Rack and is "direct" with every manufacturer?

Sorry you had bad luck with Tire Rack...

I bought my P Zero Nero M&S's from Tire Rack and had them mounted by one of their recommended installers... no complaints about Tire Rack and superior service from their installer (Chicago area folks check out K & O tire in Elk Grove - they are the best!)

Also have had dealings with Discount Tire, both online and at their stores. No complaints about them either and I've spent over $3,500 with them so far...

if you are posting about "discount tires direct" you should make that clear, because it is a different company from "discount tires"

IMO... Discount Tire Direct is light years ahead of Tire Rack in both product line and customer service. I deal 99% with DTD when I can, and I can't say enough good things about them. All of their information is dead-on and they back their products 110%. And yes, they are a monster compared to TR.

Again, I ask what, exactly, do you base that statement on.

well i can 2nd what he says.. since i've been screwed over twice by tire rack.. and never will be buying from their outfit again.. i had to call bridgestone to force tire rack to give me a refund on tires i wasn't satisfied with.. and these were a "30-day test drive" money back set of tires.. unreal.. they're happy to get your money hardly want to give it back.. bad bad service! I have had better luck with the local discount store at least they were willing to replace some out of round tires! tirerack actually claimed that the pirelli's hardly ever have defects.. and they refused to even warranty replace two tires.. they told me it must be the road. I laughed so hard.. so yeah I can see why no one cares for tirerack.. what a joke!

also.. discount tire store I went to got the pirelli's right from pirelli's warehouse.. ups shipped in.. so no they didn't get them from the tirerack (thank heaven)..

I have no idea about the details of your experience, so obviously I can't say who was wrong. However, I feel safe in the belief that "no one cares for tirerack" is a little inaccurate.

As for them getting the Pirellis from the "warehouse", that may be possible, I don't know. Did Discount just tell you that, or did you actually see a shipping label.

DTD is Discount Tire Direct.. direct meaning they are not a chain store, but a large National company, supplying tires and wheels to both consumers and manufacturers. I have not dealt with a DT chain store, but I have called up Tire Rack and sifted through their website (which IMO is outdated and has horrible navigation). I have to whole heartedly say that DTD is far superior. I think Todd from DTD is even registered on this website, I bought rims and tires for my 350Z from him back in June, excellent service. The combo I wanted was in 2 different warehouses, so he upgraded me to Nitto NT555 tires for only like $50 more so he could get them to me faster.. amazing service.

Also, couldn't find metal hubcentric rings for the xB anywhere that could get them fast (local or online).. called up DTD, had em the next day... the CORRECT ones too.. DTD will most likely see ALL of my wheel and tire business as long as I'm into the car scene.

Buying an FD TT RX7 in the next few weeks.. DTD will get my business for those wheels and tires as well.

I didn't say it was impossible, I was just asking. And, they do get some of their stuff from Tire Rack.

P.S. Do you remember the address? (just kidding)

A bit of clarification for us Californians ... DTD is related to America's Tire Co. and not the CA-only chain called Discount Tire Centers. DTD's parent company does business as Discount Tire Co. outside CA.

IMO Discount Tire Centers is OK but America's Tire Co. is great and not that much more $$$.
