Default brushes at car washes

I was wondering what everybody's opinion is about using the foam brushes at self-serve coin washes. I've never used them because I thought they would scratch the paint, but I've talked to others who do use them. Any feedback?

Ya... you'll probably get swirl marks bad...

It's not the brushes themselves that I would worry about the most... its what is left IN the brushes from the last person.

You know... that guy with the 4wheeler that scraped off the mud / gravel with that brush you almost put on your car?

i have 3 different heads for the brush i use at my house, i wash the other 2 when they are not being used, to get anything small and that could cause damage out!

Yeah, I'm sure a lot of people use those brushes on their monster trucks with an inch of dirt on them. Do you think just using the high-pressure soap is good enough to get the car clean enough?

nope, too much dirt will stay on the car. Then, when you go to dry the car, the dirt left on the paint will end up scratching it anyway. I have a nozzle with like 10 different settings. I put it on the one that looks like a showerhead. I use that one to get all of the loose dirt off first. start from the top to the bottom, that way you dont miss anything. Also, make sure you use a liberal amount of soap. When I wash mine i use a 1/4 cup of soap, for each quarter of the car. The soap is what helps bring the dirt off the paint, and without enough soap, you are also adding more scratches that way.

I would rather rinse forever than need to have it buffed all the time.

Hope this helps

I always try to hand wash during the summer, but in the winter in Michigan it's kind of impossible to do that. That's why I try the coin car washes.

Do you have a water line in your garage? I'm not sure how I would rinse off the car in my garage.

I disagree with sprslug. If something is barring you from giving your car a good cleaning, the power spray is a good idea. Theres no way your car is going to come out dirtier than when it came in. Chances are that if you are using the coin wash, you're not going to hand-dry your car. During winter, it's common for me to use a coin wash on a warm(er) day with a spot-free finish - no drying - nothing touching the paint but water. Of course this method is not going to give you a great clean, but it will help.

Those brushes dont work. I do not recommend using them. They dont ever get all the dirt of of your car. i just wash my car at home.

your right the brushes just spread the dirt. Also with the way our paint is it will leave swirl marks. I suggest not using them.
