Default Cancel extended warranty or not?

I bought my rs 1.0 with 72,000 miles warranty ( i forgot how many years). I am planning to put a CAI and cat back mufflers for sure. I might even buy a header back and get a new header also. Shall I cancel the warranty before I do it?

Why would you do that?

Here's a question on topic, but to add to whats being asked. If we get our parts installed by TRD/Scion, I know those parts would be covered under warranty, but after the 12yr period, could they use the mods against us if something else happens?
Example, I get the TRD exhaust and the AEM intake from them and installed, and a valve goes bad, could they say No, not covering it?

I'm not sure that's entirely true, but here's something to think about.

Typically, and notice I'm saying typically, changing exhaust parts on a car does nothing to void the warranty when it comes to the engine. If the engine is unmodified all the exhaust does is deliver the gasses out into the atmosphere. So, while the exhaust obviously wouldnt' be covered by your warranty becaue it isn't stock. They can't make a case that the aftermarket install of a header back to your tailpipe affected the way your engine ran and caused whatever problem you brought to them.

At least that's been my exprience.

I have had cases where if you put something BEFORE the engine, such as an aftermarket intake, that they have claimed that since it affected something going into the engine (the air) that that caused some problem (whether it did or not) and therefore voided the warranty.

If I were you I'd call your dealer and ask directly. "If I put on X,Y, and Z will that void my warranty?" Get the service manager to put his response in writing.

As for me, I never get the extended warranty. I pretty much void the factory one as soon as the car gets home.

Read the link I posted... that's why I put it there.

You do NOT instantly void your warranty by installing something.

https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=55338

And I quote...
Legally, a vehicle manufacturer cannot void the warranty on a vehicle due to an aftermarket part unless they can prove that the aftermarket part caused or contributed to the failure in the vehicle (per the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act (15 U.S.C. 2302(C))
Go read that post!

As for Tucker's question... um... if you have them install it and then the warranty expires... then well... what would it be voiding?

Just to add this quote. If you change out the cat. you are changing the way the engine handles the exhuast. So in exchange you are altering performance of engine. I would ask the dealer directly. I would think this will void the warranty. Exhuast upgrades from front to back most always are done to increase hp of the engine, thus changing the stock configuration.
This is my 5th toyota and I have never bought or have needed the extended warranty.

I agree, it does techinically affect the engine. I guess I should have said, "as far as the dealerships I have dealt with have been concerned, it doesn't."

You're absolutly right though.

any options that you get installed by scoin is under warrenty for i year or 12 months. I'm not sure if thats now what your warrenty on your car is, but if you do any mods to engine that might turn your warrenty to 1yr/12month warrenty instead of your standard 5 yr/60k miles warrety. I would talk to your dealership and ask them for sure

Moved to M&CC anyways for warranty discussion.

I don't think any of you are reading it... but like I said... installing something aftermarket does not instantly void your warranty. Period.
