Default Catalytic repair on gfs Celica

Hey guys and girls, need your help if you can. just got my gf celica back from the mechanic for a diagnostic study, he said she needs a new cat and an idle control valve and sd it was gonna cost $900. i just about crapped my pants. so i went online and i dont have a problem finding the control valve but all the cats i find say "universal, may require welding" etc. As long as it says for a celica and is OBDII compliant, will that work? i found the cat on ebay for $66 and the control valve for $180-. thanks for your input. Now, labor will just run me $300

you just go to a garage, and tell them you need a new cat put on. it will require welding.

so pretty much a universal one will work because i cant imagine they would just have it in stock. my guy said he needs to order it but $900 sounds kinda high for parts and labor. I'll give the cat to him to weld and i'll try and put in the idle valve

well, cats are pretty much universal, the only thing is they have to be the proper piping diameter for the exhaust. that is about it.

what year is the celica and what model is it?

I will see if i can hook you up on a factory cat for it.

As for cats being universal, thats incorrect. The cat needs to be the same length and everything as the factory one as well other wise it will either overheat of wont do its job..
