Default Cost of clearcoat

How much do you guys think a new coat of clearcoat would cost on the car, with all the paint problems, it seems like another coat would do the car well, and make it more shiny.

well, you would have to wetsand the whole car, mask n what not...I'm guessin with all the prep work and final wet sanding and buffing...I would GUESS around $1,500 maybe $2,000...freakin A...I dont know...but thats what my educated guess would be...

do your self a favor and don't take your car to Maaco. when they are done with it, it iwll look worse than it is now, and you'll end up having to strip it all off again, and take it some place else.

If you want your car done right, take it to *professionals*, not some body work company that specializes in "discount" paint jobs.

I am already planning on taking my PW xB to get cleared as soon as it comes in. I've got a guy that will do it for $700. He does an AWESOME job, the paint on my bf's 69 Nova is perfect!!! I think it is well worth the money thought even for $1500 since it will make you much happier with you vehicle.

I supopse that depends on what your definition of "good" is.

One of my good friends *owns* a paint shop. For him to paint a car for me, one that I have removed all trim on, and requires no body work, still costs him >$700 out of his pocket just for labor and material. Unless you are living in a third world country, I don't see how you can get a show quality paint job for less than that, unless whoever is doing the jobs for you is losing money.

$500 will not even get proper prep for a "good" paint job. But you look at it in perspective. Maaco is not a shabby shop, they simply deal in low rate paint jobs. What I mean is this. They dont claim to provide high quality professional paint jobs. They work in the market of people who have an older car that they simply want to have a decent paint job on for a few more years until the car is worn out. They dont want to spend big money, but their paint is flaking or chipping, meaning rust is immenent. So in that case Maaco is a great choice. Definitely not high quality, but it gets the job done. For example, if I needed to repaint my winter car (which has high miles and probably only a couple of more years in it) then a $300 Maaco paint job would be sufficient. They use decent paint, but do very little prep work, no trim removal for that price, just a basic, not horrible, paint job.

But on my tC... I would spend the cash to have it done right and perfect.

You can buy enough House of Kolor (top of the line custom paint) clear with activator and reducer to do your whole car for $140. Add in the cost of cleaning the existing finish, sanding, masking, wipe down, spraying, and clean up...and you should be able to have it done in an afternoon for $500. Of course you have to realize that most shops have been getting fat on insurance company bucks and would balk at these costs, but it really isn't that expensive nor is it that difficult. BTW, I have painted hundreds of cars over the past 20 years so I do know something about the business...

Default Any One with paint chip problems ???????

bought my XA in March of 2005 and very happy with it but before I left for my vacation i noted I had paint chips in a few places ! I called the dealer and asked if the car had a top coat...He said yes! Then I saw a post in here some one was asking if anyone had a problem with paint chipping off way to easy!

My frind noted it look as if the car only had one coat of paint, and the chips kep coming! I drove my car home to Topeka Kansas from Reno Nevada and avoided getting behind 18 wheels and if on happen to pull out in front of me I would drop back !

Well I mad it home to kansas done my visiting and return back to Reno and wow Paint chip city, I still have my ford Escort GT and it's been shot twice with a BB gun and all was done was the dimple the paint stayed on !

If someone knows more about this problem I'm willing to join in and confront Toyota about thisd mater! I have 6,700 miles on mine now and just don't like how easy the paint flyes off! Please contact me at ( BLKACE1@aol.com ) The Name Is JJ and the webmaster of http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/RenoHPD/

a gallon of clear coat from sherwin williams runs about $186 for the CC930. But for an all over job the CC950 is better. which runs a little bit more. The hardener is about $50 a qt if i do believe. Now SW paint isnt the greatest, but they make a damn good clear coat. Hell if you lived in ga i would do it for you on a side job. painting cars is cake...

if you go to maaco...I'd give you a week or so before it starts peeling off the car.

Is it that hard to apply it yourself? You know, buy some scuba gear to breathe, mask all the non-painted stuff, and spray it all on after you've washed it and sanded yourself? The cost would only be in the clear right?
