Dash Board Rattling when acelerating
Hey guys anyone notice in the 2005 XB a rattle comming fromthere dash board from the instument cluster when you are accelerating from first to second gear. Vey irritating rattle. Make the car sound very cheaply built. does any else notice this?

I have noticed this, but it doesn't occur everytime. It seems to occur more often after leaving the car outside in the heat. It has never happened when starting the trip from the garage. Maybe it's just coincidence, but I thought it was interesting.

Hey Everyone. I had this problem too, when I drove my xB off the lot new. I took it back to them, and they said there was 2 things that can cause the rattle.
1. A speaker grill / guard.
2. The lense on the speedometer was loose.
They tightened both of these things on my xB 2 months ago, and I have never heard the rattle again.
Take it to the dealer and see what they say.

I have both rattles. The one in the back turned out to be the rear seat latch. A little black electrical tape around the latch bar solved that one. The other is somewhere in the instrument cluster. Also only under acceleration. I have not solved that one yet. Taking it back to the dealer is not an option. They had it for 3 hours last time and did not find the rattle in the back. They will not get a second chance.

Just to let you all know, I have the same rattle coming from my inst cluster and I have a manual xA... I wonder if this is characteristic of the lense they use to cover the gauges, or if its just loose? I installed the injen intake and it got way worse, but its so loud now that you can barely hear anything but the engine.

there is a service bulletin out for this.. i saw it.. the rattle from the dash is coming from the air vents by the radio.. and the rear latch is from the lock striker has to be moved up to make a tighter fit.. ask the dealer, they'll show you the TSB..

I have the same rattle. I noticed that if I reached up and lightly pressed the clear plastic cover on the speedo the rattle stopped. If I wedge some folded up paper in the crack there it goes away totally, but looks like hell! I think a rubber gasket or something similar would fix the problem.

Here I will host the TSBs on my website...
Here is the 2004 xB rattles TSB...

There are no rattle TSBs out for the 2005s yet but we can assume the same problems could exist.

I also had the rattle from the instrument cluster, went away when I pulled it out to make the speedo blue at night. There are a few plastic pieces that are held in place with snaps that could be loose, otherwise a little felt in there will also work to tighten it all up. Takes much less time to do it yourself than to schedule a dealer visit IMHO. Literally 10 minutes to check it all and apply felt in your garage. Read the tutorial on this site for changing the speedo color for pics and detailed steps to open it up, it's very easy to do.
